One HELLUVA Weekend

Okay, the stress has been relieved, at least a bit. I don't know if ya'll remember, but I was having my wife fly over to Sofia, Bulgaria to spend my 4 day pass with her (fighter's managment pass program/FMPP). With some help from my fellow members I had everything set up. Tickets, hotel res., limo to pick her up, flowers, champagne, candles, etc. set up in the room.(hey I haven't seen her for 5 1/2 months give me a break ) Started out and was for the most part a PERFECT weekend. Well Saturday night rolls around and we go to "sleep" Is it just me now or when you are dependent on a time schedule, you would think that your fellow NCO's would look out for you. Not certain mud puppies (Ids I say this with tounge in cheek brother....you have seen what MP's can be like when they are running an FMPP setup). You would think that they would make it a point to inform us that when in Europe daylight savings time is a week ahead of the states. NO....Long story short my wife misses her plane. Not only this but the MP's have the * because noone showed up for their brief, suprise there turd. So here we are, some 150+ joes trying to clear the hotel, when I realive my wife has missed her plane. At this time I am also informed by the hotel staff that my debit card cannot be accepted by the hotel, they aproved it but they thought it was an actual credit card.Mind you the MP's are pretty much not caring about the fact that my wife is stranded in Bulgaria with no support from them and they're trying to rush me off to the bus at this point "a wall fell on my hand preventing me from striking an E8 MP" resulting in a broken hand. OK sounds like she got her stuff straight with the airlines and a CPT spotted me the cash for the bill. I am off now leaving an extremely frightened wife who is trying to no avail to curtail the tears I knew would come. I would call that night when she got it.Curtain closes evening arrives (o dark thirty actually) and no word from the wife. Not her mom, grandmother, her aunt, or the woman watching the house. She was supposed to arrive 530EST in Syracuse. No word.... I stay up all night waiting calling her moms and grandmothers every 15 min, mind you this is the FIRST time she has ever flown or been out of the states. Finally word comes that she was held over in Venice, Italy for the night. She had to call collect because the 3 phone cards she had on her could not be used at certain phones. Now she's supposed to be in Monday, early afternoon.Today rolls around. No word, her mom is at the airport waiting. Everyone else is waiting by the phones, except the woman at our house watching the dog. Nope, she had an asthma(sp?) attack this morning and was rushed to the hospital, the only one who knew was her sister, who didn't have the numbers to anyone, and noone can go check on her because it's a closed post and the only three people she knws with ID's are either out of country or are at the airport. I checked the messages and find that my wife has tried to call collect several times, the latest being around 400pmest. No details, just the operator asking if we would accept a collect call from my wife. No word but at least I heard her voice, and she sounded safe. That was the last I heard unti I just got off the phone with her sister, and apparently they are on thier way back from Syracuse with my VERY exhausted wife. I really don't know how much significance this has to most of you, but ya'll have always been here to listen and offer help. I just needed to vent. There is just this enormus feeling of helplessness when you have a loved one who you you need to help, but due to circumstances you are beyond offering assistance. And do you want to know the kicker? The first things she wanted to know were 1. is her babies hand alright? and 2. did I get in trouble for her missing her plane? I don't think I have ever felt so much relief in my life.
