I applied for a ccw in MN In which they have 21 days to reply. It's been over 30 days and still haven't heard a thing. Any ideal what my next step should be?

Well, my fellow shooters, it's been a long while since I posted last. I am proud of something that I have done, and I thought I would share it with you all, as well. For a few months, I have been considering getting my ccw permit. On this past Friday, I took a pistol course at my local gun shop. It was required for me to take at least one course before I could move on to CCW. Then, on Saturday, I went and took the concealed weapons course. When it came to be test time, I was a little nervous, but as it turned out, I had nothing to be nervous about. I passed the written portion with a 100% score. And when it came time to do the shooting portion of the test, only 2 of my shots were outside of the "kill zone" of the sillouhette. That was shooting at a target at 21, 40, and 50 feet, using a .45 SIG P220. That probably does not impress a lot of you folks on here, but I was proud of myself for going through the class(14 hours), and scoring as well as I did. There are not a lot of 21 year old adults who can say the same thing in my neck of the woods. I have learned so much stuff that I was not aware of, and some of the topics were just amazing. Like I said up a little ways, the class was 14 hours. I took it at a sporting goods shop, Cleland's Outdoor World. The instructor is a world record holder for rifle, pistol, and archery shooting. You can type his name in a search engine, Chad Cleland, and you will find many NRA publications about him and his mother Theresa, who was the women's combat pistol champion a few times. He also holds several records in the U.S. Army for rifle and pistol champion. He did a great job of teaching, and also made it fun. He made the 14 hours seem like 4 hours... it was great. But, anyway... I was just proud and excited for doing it, and I thought I would share it with you all.

are the colt 1911 style pistols as reliable and rugged for a ccw as something like a glock,HK or a Sig

    Hello all,

Just wondering what all you CCW permit holders are carrying these days?

I myself carry a SIG P226 in .40S&W most of the time....any others out there carrying a full frame?

Also what is your opinions on carrying a back up or second mag?

    Thank you

Go back to the Sheriff's Office or wherever it was that you applied. If you mailed your application by yourself, you had better have sent it Certified Mail, or you can't prove what day they recieved it. Always get proof when you send something important. Certified Mail is cheap and it's a lifesaver.

Then I'm not sure what to tell you. If it were me, I'd be in there raising Hell. They say 21 days, they damn well better give it to me within 21 days.

I'm crying crocodile tears for you. In NY, it takes about 6 months minimum if they like you.

If 6 months goes by and you're still waiting for your local police to honor you by considering your application, drop me a line and I'll give you some pointers for getting the damn thing. As far as raising hell being a bad idea, I say that every time some local cop gets a bug up his * and drags his feet sending in the app, SCREW the fact that the applicant HAS to be approved or denied in 21 days, it just gets worse and worse. The more you let LEO's push you around Keith, the more they WILL PUSH YOU AROUND! If they are required by law to notify you of approval or denial within 21 days, then HOT DAMN: WHAT AM I MISSING!Go in there, be polite but firm, and raise a little Hell. Don't throw things or curse them, but raise a little "Gentleman's Hell", if you will. If they deny your app, get a lawyer and sue the city. It's that easy. I will say that I have behaved in the above manner for years and I've never been turned down for my CCW or FFL. Hell, if I hadn't had my lawyer call BATF, I wouldn't HAVE my FFL. Get tough with the bastards, Keith. They screw around because they assume you'll let them. Rant mode off. Time for my Prozac.

I was going to give them to Monday and then go in and politely demand my CCW, but won't you know it they spoiled my plans by calling me today saying hey come down to the station with a picture of yourself so we can give you your CCW its approved and waiting----I'll be darned.

What county are you in and what did you use for justification? I'm coming into this thread late so smack me if I missed something that was previously posted or deleted. I grew up in Minneapolis and I know that MN is not a shall-issue state.

Good advice Dano, you helped Keith get his CCW! Had he gone in and raised hell I think he might not be taking his picture in now. It's too bad that demanding that the PD follow the rules might cause an "unfortunate delay" in issuance. But, like Gordon Blade said, consider yourself lucky.I'm not disagreeing with you either, Evil, I applaud your tenacity. But, in my experience, if you try to argue with the police the police will win.G36

I don't want to pour water on your fire, but I've been CCW for 25 years and I cannot get up the interest to bother to take the 40 caliber out of the gun safe for years. After a period of time the shiny just wears off.Just my 2 cents worth.Gun control means using two hands to shoot, not all this other garbage.
