Bore Stores and Gun Socks

Bore Stores and Gun Socks -- Are they necessary inside a safe or are they just a waste of time and money? Do the gun socks actually provide any benefit?

    I use socks on my more expensive shotguns to protect from sctatches from the brass zippers of the soft cases. And also I store them in the soft case in the gunsafe. Don't use bore stores, but I do run a thin film of oil (a little bit of oil on a cotton bore brush) in the tube before putting them away.
