You must be an old fart (sort of like me). Those were the rage back in the 70's (long before the 686) The 6" barrel conversion were quite popular in the PPC competition arena.

I have one I had done by Ken Eversull about 1975. I asked for a 6 in. and it came back with the 4". I liked it so much I didn't complain. He did a fantastic trigger job. Mine is a square butt, that grip on the round butt looks fugly.
I also have a 686. Being an L frame, the 686 in no way compares to the slick action and handling of the Mod. 19.

This good friend built a few. He was Pistol Guild of the Year in 1989. Died an early age. He made the first 3" Model 13 for the FBI. They liked them so much Smith and Wesson made them into production. Seeing that Smolt advertised brought back some memories.
