Deer Season

A man and his friend were bow hunting deer in South Georgia near highway 129. A huge 10 point buck walked by and the hunter raised his bow to sight in the buck.

Before he could release, his friend alerted him to a funeral procession passing on the road below their stand.

The hunter slowly let off the pressure on his bow, took off his hat, bowed his head and closed his eyes in prayer while the buck walked back into the woods.

His friend was amazed. "Wow, that is the most thoughtful and touching thing I have ever seen. You are the kindest man I have ever known."

The hunter shrugged. "Yeah, well, we were married for 35 years."[;)][;)]

So far, bow season has sucked and gun season isn't starting off that well either. (Whine!) Now I know that you guys are going to start telling me about all the wonderful deer you have killed this year. Be gentle. The one I missed during bow season is starting to sting.[B)]

Tomorrow is the high holy day for lots of people around here. I've never gotten into hunting. I love guns for their historic value, the skill of shooting, the pride in our great freedoms. I'm going to have to stay out of some of my favorite shooting spots now though. Two years ago I went shooting with a new 22 at a friends farm. I had forgotten it was the first day of deer season. After about 15 minutes of shooting I see orange vests moving out of the woods across the fence. Yep, I ruined some guys hunting day. After apologizing, I got out of there. Fortunatly the older guy was understanding, the younger guy looked like he was ready to shoot me and tag me as a doe. Oh well, to all of you hunters, good luck. To the rest of us, see you at the range in a week or two.

Pass on the tradition, teach a kid to shoot.

Seems like the current administration was saying we will take your weapons and you won't be able to hunt anything[V][xx(]

It depends on how big that corn pile is

I don't see shooting a deer over a corn pile much different than shooting a deer under a pear tree. I've shot a few under a pear tree and they tasted at least as good as those I've shot on a dead run in front of a pack of dogs. That reminds me ....

Once upon a time I had a discussion with another forum member. He thought he had an obligation to shoot my dog if my dog was in the act of running a deer. I mentioned there was the possibility he might get to Heaven about two steps behind my dog. He claimed there was nothing sporting about hunting deer with dogs. I can't argue that point, but it's a bunch of fun.

I asked him what is the sporting way to kill a deer? He told me about crawling around in the mountains for a day or two and shooting the deer from a mile away with a scoped rifle. I told him that seemed to be a sneaky, cowardly way to take a deer. Of course I don't see it that way, but I was trying to make a point.

My point here is deer hunting is a sport to some, subsistence to others and both to some. There is more than one way to take a deer, and as long as you do it legally it's perfectly alright with me.

Yes, one can scout for days to see where they live and eat and the paths they take thru the woods. Been there and done that many many times. You already know what they eat and the habitat you are hunting in because you have pics of them at the acorn tree. Great. Get a tree stand and sit within a few yards of an acorn tree. Hey Mr. Great White Hunter I bet you will succeed. Congrats you are one smart hunter. You are smarter than the deer. And I know all you northern yankee hunters have huge deer. Maybe. I have seen some of the huge ones. They are smaller than ours cause you come out of the city and seen a deer and shot the first one you seen. Was it with a guide you payed to find the deer for you? And the state you live in has deer hunting for 2 days of the year or so. Wow that is deer management at its best. Ever wonder why you don't see big deer? Because the so called hunters shoot every one they see. Little ones included. So don't complain when a farmer feeds his livestock in a trough and you happen to see deer at it. they are not dumb, but not as smart as the state DNR folks that passed the laws shooting them there is legal for deer management. So when you SHOOT the deer at the acorn tree... think about me Shooting one at my food source. [:)]
