Ruger 1a 308 Winchester (and its stainless)

For years I have been hoping Ruger would make the #1a light sporter in 308. Better yet a special run of the K1-a in Stainless 308. Early this year I hit on an idea. Ruger make the stainless K1-a in a 7.62X39. And a 308 shell completely overlays a 7.62X39 cartridge. A quick call to Ruger to confirm the barrel is indeed a 308 bore, 1 in 12 twist, and a quick call to my gunsmith was all I needed. I purchased the K1-a 7.62X39 and a couple of months later I now own what may be the only Ruger K1-a Stainless chambered in 308 winchester. Yesterday confirmed my hopes that it would be a shooter as I put 3 shots of Federal factory ammo (blue box) on paper in a 3/4 inch group. Not bad for factory ammo and an unbroken in barrel. Cost was the cost of the gun plus $150 for the rechamber. Not bad eh?
