I was without power for 8 days in July from a Derecho that we thought was a tornado. We do get some pretty violent storms here. Hurricane Isabel did quite a bit of damage here in 2003, my folks in Richmond were without power for 3 weeks after Isabel.

Iam dead in its path. We are on a mandatory evacuation starting tommorrow night. Donna and I are gonna ride it out. We sent our son to upstate PA to be with my parents. Tied everything down and have a whole house generator so electric is no problem. Just a little nervous.I will stay in touch as long as possible. Oak

Seriously,.....I hope that you all get through this with no property damage or long term loss of utilities.

    Take care.[;)]

Had a hurricane hit Jupiter head-on maybe 10 years back, eye sailed right into the inlet. Can't remember it's name.(so damn many since)
It knocked out power for a month. The fuel tanks at the water plant went dry after 2 weeks. All the fuel was in the gas station tanks but couldn't be pumped.(a situation now fixed).
I took my 14' cast net to the beach and fed about 300 people for 2 weeks with it.(I had some help after the first day).
    Guess what....
Not a single home, store or anything was vandalized/looted.
    Not in Jupiter anyhow...
A few months later a really nasty one hit a bit farther south,a place called Homestead.(Andrew was it's name)It killed about 125 people and wiped out the entire city...
I can't speak to the lack of looting/stealing that went on there but,it made "katrina" look like ROMPER ROOM...

What i'm getting at,I guess is,Anything remotely like a "hurricane" has NEVER hit anywhere north of the GAFLA border.
When it, if it,ever does happen,THEN and only then, will y'all "up there",know what i'm talking about...

I do wish y'all all the best and that this sandy thing fizzles out right quick.
Our local news agencies never made a peep about it so........
