I pay $8 for a haircut and tip usually 2-3 bucks... Is that about the norm?

Runs $7 to $10 bucks here in East Tennessee...probably not nearly enough for a GOOD haircut.

The farther north you go the more expensive everything gets.
A barber buzz cut here is anywhere from 15 to 19 bucks.

I have a set of clippers I paid $15 for,10 years ago.I use the #2 comb on the sides and back and the #4 on the top.
Than i attach the #3 and "blend" the sides and top.
I SWEAR!!! It looks as good or better than the $15 SUPERSLTUSCUTS haircuts I used to pay for!

I use a pair of clippers that are probably 30 years older than I am. Racine Champion is the name, IIRC. Got it set on 0.[^]

They still work great though.[8D] Don't think I'll ever find parts once it finally gives up.[;)]

The last time I went somewhere an paid for my hair cut was 4 years ago before I got married. The wife didn't want it cut short. I have shaved my head before that and still do now. No guard all the way around. It is super cheap. [:D]

Takes me a long time to train a barber to navigate his clippers successfully through the impenetrable shrubbery and on around the boundless circumference of my head. His success is gauged on how unlike a shaved disgruntled ape he can make me look in the 15-20 minutes I can sit still whith someone in such close proximity.
I have had a good one for about five years now. I don't know what he charges, but I give him 15-20 bucks depending on what we talk about during the cut. I believe the normal rate is 10 bucks.
Last week he was out sick. It was 96 degrees and very humid for weeks while my hair grew like a paint roller's nap gone wild. It formed a hair mat that held the heat like one of Aunt Helen's hand knit sweaters.
So I let the new guy do my cut and it didn't go well at all. Sure enough when he declared he was done and held out the mirror, all I saw was a large pale shaved ape with a dozen gnarly twisted scars showing through like angry tractor ruts in a freshly harvested cornfield. Women, children and guys with feelings have been fleeing the vicinity when I show up.

One pair of sissors and a little time in front of the mirror. Been cutting my own for years. I can get the front and sides as good as the barber, and the back well probably not as good. The back doesn't matter much as I can not turn around fast enough to see it anyway. It always seemed a rip off to me $10 for fifteen minutes, that is $40 an hour. Not worth it to me.

There's a new guy in my neighborhood charging 6.99, (I give him $10). Other barbers are $10 and up, plus tip.

I cut my two boy's hair for many years, up to the point they needed a more "hip" look that Dad couldn't provide. That $30 investment in a hair clipper probably saved me 200 haircuts. At an average of $7, that's $1400 I saved, and I'm figuring on the conservative side. [:D]

I have a cute little thing cut my hair. Sometimes her hair may be purple, or some kind of tint on it. We have a time when she cuts my hair. The apron she puts on me is called a bib. this girl will say things and know she can get away with it that her Mom would blush about.. Some old woman almost everytime is complaining about her hair... when my hair lady ask me.. what I think about the old womans mop... Everytime I tell the old woman, whoever it is.. that the work they done is very nice. I've done this a lot of times and say it with a straight face. Then the girl will tell me everytime.. You ain't right [:o)][:o)] I think the haircut is 11 bucks. I give them a 20 and walk away. Sometimes someone else will be the cashier and yell at me ..you forgot your change when I start out the door. I hear them but just ignore.
