Best home use printer?

I seem to have more trouble with the printer than with any other part of my system. What in your experience is the best printer for a trouble free operation and lower ink costs. Is the wireless feature desirable?

I've had a Brother MFC-9130CW for almost 2 years and love it. It's a color laser printer/scanner/copier that is wireless. I can scan documents and send it to my PC directly anywhere in my house. Also, the ink for Brother laser printers is cheaper than HP and Cannon. The color is great and haven't had any problems yet. On the other hand, I don't print a lot, so can't claim to have put it through it's paces from heavy use.

Printers are almost cheap enough to just throw away considering the cost of ink
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

printers are disposable these days, and its a crap shoot

    worst i have had

cannon, and very bad customer service to boot, 650.00 down the drain due to a part they knew was defective

lexmark has the most expensive ink available due the the tiny size of the cartridges, last one we had lasted about 2 reams of paper

    best i have had

brother, i have a laser printer that has been a work horse for B&W only, cost of a cartridge is double but you get 5x the pages, it has printed over 25k pages

HP , i have a color hp , had an issue with it, but the best CS i have seen in a while, they replaced it asap at no cost, and replaced 120.00 worth of ink due to it being married to the printer

both are wireless and would not have it any other way

I used ink-jets for years, both Cannon and H-P. They both worked well but if I wanted to print a solid object (instead of text) I ended up with wet paper. I bought a H-P laser (MFP M277dw)a couple of years ago and love it. Yes, toner is pricey but lasts a long time. Wireless is worth the extra cost to me.
It's too late for me, save yourself.

We just seem to not print enough at home and the ink seems to dry out.
My wife emails what she needs and I print everything at my office.

Another vote for Brother. Mine is a Model MFC-J480DW. I get my extended capacity ink cartridges from needink.com, at about half the price of in the store. The printer uses four cartridges for black and individual colors. That's handy if you happen to use (for example) a lot of blue on one job.

The printer is wired and/or wireless, does copy, scan, and fax duties, and powers itself down when not in actual use. It is slow to print, but I'm never short of time and I print very little.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

I've had nothing but HP for many years without any problem. The only reason I ever replaced one was for more features (wi-fi, etc.)

I've got the Black & White print version. Love it. Color scans. Wireless is the best feature.

The best is very subjective and probably depends on what folks currently have that works the way they want it to!!!!!

I used HP printers for a number of years, but wasn't overly impressed with the last one I had. So, I switched to Canon Multifunction Inkjet Printers about 15 years ago and I've been very happy with them. I use them for basic print jobs and photo/slide scanning and printing. Mine have all been wired and wireless capable. I'm currently using two Canon Inkjets, an MG8220 and a MG6220, both in wireless mode, one near my PC and one near my wife's PC. Both are Airprint capable, so you can print from Apple devices without needing a printer driver.

Truthfully, the ink cost is a little high, but that won't make me change to another brand; I like the Canon printers!

If you can't feel the music; it's only pink noise!

The current consumer report has a good article on printers. Depending on how much ink you use dictates which is best. Some printer companies really soak you on refills...

Like most here I have a wireless Brother that has been the best I've had. We don't use it a lot, but we use the extra large ink cartridges so it doesn't hurt as often. I think nearly all printers now can be used wireless, that's the only way to go. We seem to use the scan function the most.

I currently have an HP Envy 5530. I had another HP before that for 6 or 7 years. Both worked fine. Making a habit of printing one page a week with color and B/W keeps the ink from drying out. My wife prints a shopping list every weekend, so if I don't use the printer for long periods of time there isn't a problem.

I have been using Lexmark and Canon inkjet printers for years with very few problems. I do like the ease of refilling both of their cartridges. Several years ago I bought quart bottles of each color and of black. I use a hypodermic syringe to refill the cartridges instead of paying $25-$35 per replacement cartridge. A few cents worth of ink refill and I am back in business. The biggest problem with inkjet is the necessity to print regularly to prevent the cartridge jets from drying out. When they do, wiping off the jets with a hot water-soaked sponge seems to solve the problem in a few seconds.
