Cost of living??

How is the cost of living where your are? For me, it is absolutely ridiculous. Townhouses start at 250,000 and single family homes are 300,000+. I still wonder what these people do to make a 1500 or 2000 dollar a month payment for their homes. Thats why I need to leave!!

Not near that bad here. The same house would be around $125,000.

don't know what the going rates are here, but in Greene County TN, where I grew up the cost of living was extremely slight.

3 Bed, 2 Bath, Kitch, LR; 2000 SF on 1.5 acres property, $125,000

3 bed, 1 bath, kitch, LR; 1100 SF, on .75 acres property, $65,000

I have 2,000 square feet on 4 acres. Trying to refinance for $100,000 and don't know if I will make it.

$120,000 would buy it real fast.

Small town pop a little over 10,000, dead end street, town garage on the dead end so I'm the first one plowed out after a blizzard, 66'w x 210'd lot, small 2 story barn that could hold 4 cars, 1500 sq ft 3 bedrooms all off a sitting room not a hallway, kitchen, dining, lvg rm.

5 yrs ago they were asking $59,000.00, I offered $62,000 and made them put in a new electric service with breakers, + new roofs on house & barn. Taxes county, school & town run $1790. a year.

I can run the house for under $800.00 a month utilities included.

The one bad thing. It's in western NY and the politics and gun laws stink!

NE Pennsyltuckey (current home) isn't good and NJ (near future home, again) is even worse; comparable to pickenup's prices. It varies dramatically in NJ depending on the area and tax rate.

A friend of mine just sold his 980 sf, 3br 1.5ba split level for $86,500. He just finished completely remodeling; its in a quiet, low traffic neighborhood, and close to elementry and middle schools and is great for kids ... it was on the market for 5 hours when they got an offer for $1000 more than their asking price.

In Feburary, we bought a ranch style home, built in 1977, we'er the second owners ... 3400sq + 2 car ovresized garage. 1750sf finished on top of 1650sf unfinished basement, lot is just under an acre $124,000

marinerah the prices you state aren't all that unusual. The cost of living where I am is high too. You have to factor in distance from large cities and if you can make a living in a more rural locale. I am working at seeing if I can make that sort of move at some point.

There are probably some parts of nearly every large state where the cost of living drops dramatically. One location I looked at in another state would drop my monthly housing payment more than 10% and that wasn't a rural location either.

Lower than alot of other places up to now. Stay out of the cities of course. But that's changin' with all the yankees and city folk moving to this area. [:(][:(][}:)][:(!][:(]

1650 sf with 24x36 shop on 5 acers. It would probably sell for 115K-125K today. Taxes are $1200.00 a year.

ElMuertoMonkey its about the same here 650k 675k for a run of the mill home. The ones on the coast here start at about 2.5 million and go up.

marinerahAs for where I am at on the central coast of CA. During the dot.com boom in the silicon valley it was not suprising to see jobs that were paying 75k to 250k a year. Some of them invested in property here and along with our housing crunch (Anti-Growth for us) every thing has become very expensive.

I have a newer modeler home 2bed/2bath (Mobile home) that is now worth about 200k to put that in perspective 10 years ago I might get 60k for it.

PS $2.40 a gal. for prem today at Chevron

[:0][:0]What???// Out here in the puckies ya could buy a 2-3 bedroom on a lot for oh,biut 50,000.00 We are lookin at a little place with a mobile on it ,3 bedroom,5 acres,a small bunkhouse for the huntin buddies, and another good sized shed,35,000.00.I thought it was a bit steep...For 350,000.00 you could by a 525 acre farm with 3 barns and 2 houses.Acreage will run some where between 350.00 to 1200.00 per acre if you buy a good bit and stay away from the water....Guess I'll stick here....L.H.

For you city dwellers, Oklahoma City was among the top 10 cities in the USA (if I recall it was for cities with population over 500,000) for cost of living vs. income.
