I tried out a new scope yesterday made by ATN called day/night. It was 3-12 power but what you were looking at was a digital image when looking into the scope. Just released in the USA. You can record what your looking at or shooting at right thru the scopes memory or it had wifi so you could link up your phone or a buddies phone so they could see the exact things that you were seeing thru the scope and record it on your phone. It also had ports to hook up hard to a computer to download your videos that you recorded. Battery life of 12 hours constant and 2 hour of record time. Lots of bells and whistles . It was designed to mount on AR style rifles. It can be used in the daytime or total dark with the special light that is mounted right on it. Bad side is it weighs 2.4 lbs. Check them out if you get a chance. Retails about 600.00.

Get more functionality from your rifle scope, day or night, with ATN X-Sight HD Day/Night Rifle Scopes. These advanced digital scopes feature an advanced Obsidian Core processor to expand well past the functionality of standard rifle scopes, adding night vision, wi-fi, digital zoom, geotagging, image stabilization, and much more. ATN's powerful 1G Obsidian Core utilizes a high resolution, 1080p sensor with distinct night vision capability and powerful processor that cycles data 1 billion times per second. This powerful system gives users the capability of recording high definition video or pictures day or night (with Total Darkness Mode). The all-digital system gives you the use of smooth electronic zoom for incredible flexibility and convenience. This amazingly versatile rifle scope also offers Wi-Fi connection to nearby computers or mobile devices; ability to track location, altitude, and travel speed; e-compass; GPS geotagging; gyroscope image stabilization; and more. Features Micro USB, Micro HDMI, Micro SD capability. Runs on 4 AA batteries (not included).

    Two models, $629 and $729:

    http://www.atncorp.com/x-sight-night-vision-rifle-scope-3-12x

    http://www.atncorp.com/x-sight-night-vision-rifle-scope-5-18x

It's a rifle scope built around a digital camera sensor. The advertising is concealing who's sensor it is.

    What's the model number?

The $600 price tag sounds suspicious right off the bat, for that level of capability.

Is it truly digital, or just a digital image based on starlight amplification? If so, what generation? Otherwise, it must be IR, and that price sounds way too low for IR.

I don't know your answers to your questions but it's pretty neet. I have seen other ATN models made in the USA go for 6000.00 - 9000.00 dollars. This is imported from China for ATN.

I watched the video on their website and other than the annoying music That Scope does a lot for just under 700 bucks, but does it do all those this well?

With it being digital how quickly does it focus and how does it stack up to Gen 3 NVGs?

I would have to use it to believe it is that good.

2.7 # scope isn't going to work for me. I had an ATN Night vision scope before generation 3+. It was heavy and bulky.

Just about 5 years ago, some hog hunters were reportedly paying $10,000 for night shooting scopes.

Gen 3 with red adjustable reticle. Paid $2500 used a
few years ago, very heavy and 3x power.

That ATN sounds too good to be true,
    but I could be wrong.

This device will be based on digital camera technology, not on image intensified night vision. The most basic difference is the camera is a solid state integrated circuit while image intensifiers are vacuum tubes.

The better image intensifiers are always superior in low light amplification and battery life. It is a difficult technology to make well, and that makes it expensive.

This new riflescope from ATN will turn out to be essentially a camera chip, GPS chip, digital magnetometer chip, a CPU and some good software. All the elements already found in smart phones and cameras today.

old versus new....this scope discussion sounds like the original 4 function calculator for 700 bucks versus the new scientific multifunction one selling for $20 today

Thanks for the link, handy to see what you get for your money, but I'm on a budget and need something cheap. Air rifle and rats is my ultimate use, however hard to believe prices have dropped 300% + and functionality offered with these scopes wasn't available on commercial units 10+ years ago.

Do it yourself rigs on You Tube,, many are less than 50 bucks. Might be some for hunting but haven't looked.

Thinking using home made with an IR illuminator might be the way to go and cheap IR cameras from china look to work OK. Bought a camera with adjustable focus and will fabricate something next month.

Long (10 minute video) but skipping to end shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

If just shooting rats with an air rifle try setting up an IR illuminator in the barn or attic. Should able to give even cheap night vision lots of light to work well on. Especially at short ranges.

I've been studying on getting one of those for my piggy popper.
Unless they've changed, last time I researched it, the recoil limit is 308 bolt action,so that pretty much knocks it out for most common hunting rifles (30-06 class and up)

best I can figure that's the target demographic for this scope.
The hog hunters than can't or won't spend several grand to hunt hogs.

I'd like it because I'd be able to sight it in during the day easier than my current NV scope, and I'd be able to go out and sit on a deerstand in the afternoon and pop piggies in the afternoon or into the night without changing, scopes, guns or uppers. Great concept
From what I've seen most NV scopes are over 2# so weight is not too out of line.

One of the things I like it it uses AA Batteries instead of the CR123 my NV uses.
Granted I have rechargeable batteries for that scope now, but AA Batteries are cheaper and more available, as are the rechargeable ones

When I first picked it up and looked thru it I thought I was looking thru a regular scope it was so clear and bright and the Red Cross hairs were bright and clear even in full sunlight. I wasn't able to try it in full darkness but compared to the 7000.00 dollar NV scope he had there to compare it to, I liked the ATN 600.00 better .

Good video but different scope than I was looking at. Hopefully they have corrected some of the problems. There is only two different models like the one I saw, a 3-12 and a 5-18 power. The one in the video is simular but different in some ways.

Until they get it perfected I wouldn't put that money into them. I don't really want to rely on a computer chips to make the shot. It all sounds good but from what I have seen the IP is the key for clarity at night. I wouldn't waste any money on it for using it daylight only. A regular bullet compensation 14x scope does me well on the .308 or a good military grade night vision scope if that is the fancy.
