For a designated driver service? A driver picks you and your car up at your location & drives you and your car home?
I know we have a few here who imbibe [:D]
Would you use a service like this?
Thanks!

less than it would take to call a cab to get home and a cab to get back to my car the next day.

its convenient, but no so much so as to be worth exorbitant fees.

I already have one of those it's called my wife. The thing is I worry more about her smashing up my SUV then if I drove it after a few drinks.
But in reality we have some of those in town here that operate on a donation basis.

It would be cheaper to set up as a round trip service, returning you to your car the next day, than it would be to set up to either tow or have a second driver in the evening. Labor cost and insurance should be less.

    What is exorbitant?
The convenience of having your car in your drive in the morning when you are going to work is worth a premium I think...

Not really, your driving the drinker & their car (in their car) with a chase car following you.

I have been looking at some of the ones we have around here, prices run from $50.00 & up for the first 5 miles, with a per mile surcharge after that...+ extras for other drop offs....

Have a friend who when gets too polluted calls a tow truck. Gets a DD ride home and his car is there in the morning. The towing service he uses a lot gives him frequent flyer/tower miles discount.[8D]

I am thinking about starting at $45.00 5 mile radius $5.00 a head for extra drops, $2.00 per mile over 5 miles...
I have 4 bars within about a 1/2 mile of my home, 2 of them, a Hooters and a popular long time bar I can see from my up stairs windows [;)]

Buy a car that has no carpet , vinyl floor and vinyl seats. When the drunks get done getting sick in the car, just hose it out.

The beauty of it is you drive the drunks in their car, then they can puke all they want [;)]

Have a follow car... I figure keep it in a 5 mile radius, it should take no more than 20-30 min per... I have not got the wife sold on it yet, she is laid off, so I am looking to put her to work [;)]

Shouldn't cost you much to give it a try.

Only thing I can see as being a PIA is the insurance issue. First off you are operating a business that involves driving another persons vehicle. Who covers that?

What if you drive home a drunk with no insurance, or minimal insurance in his/her vehicle, and have an accident in route?

I would certainly be incorporated, or an LLC if you decide to do this. Also I would spend a bit of time with a business attorney to see all of the angles where you can be at risk for being sued.

    NOTHING is simple anymore.[;)]

back in the late 80's i drove 10 guys around in a van to various bars, and other venues, for a bachelor party in NY. the van belonged to a police detective who knew all the good entertainment spots.[;)]
I was part of the celebration, except for the booze.
22 hours later, they gave me the $50 we agreed on.
    what a great party![:D]

    Yep.
The insurance is the biggest issue as far as I can tell, all we should need are chauffeurs licenses, which we already have...

Sounds like a decent service but way too many liabilities. Driving someone's car ( you may not be covered in an accident if not on policy )

Dealing with drunks.. not a good thing. They can't sign any liability releases or anything cause they are drunk..not knowing what they are doing. Taking a risk the drunk has drugs on them.. then everyone in the car gets arrested. If stopped the drunk can still be arrested for public intox?

I would do a limo service with the chauffeurs license. Get a big ol' stretch limo and do weddings, trips to big cities, special occasions or whatever. Write the vehicle off as a tax expense.
