Blacksburg (WLTX, AP) - South Carolina Lieutenant Governor Andre Bauer is said to be in good condition but will require surgery to repair damage to his left foot.
Bauer and a friend were injured when their small plane crashed Tuesday night in the Upstate.
Robin Zimmerman with Greenville Memorial Hopsital says Bauer was admitted and put in intensive care, where he remains. He will have to have surgery on his lower foot to repair a broken heel; however, she says it's not clear when that procedure will take place.
Because of Bauer's condition, his chief-of-staff, Mike Easterday, says Senate Pro-Tem Glenn McConnell will preside over the Senate Wednesday and Thursday.

The crash happened around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday in the Cherokee County town of Blacksburg, near White Farm Road, shortly after take-off. The aircraft struck a power line, hit the ground, then caught on fire.
State Senator Jake Knotts says he spoke with Bauer and says the lieutenant governor is alert and in good spirits but 'banged up.'

Bauer was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital. Bauer's co-pilot, 77-year-old John Leonhardt, was taken to a hospital in Spartanburg where he is in fair condition in intensive care.
Leonhardt's wife, Azalia, says she spoke to her husband three times Tuesday night. She says he suffered only minor injuries, and that her husband is a pilot with extensive flying experience, but that Bauer was flying the aircraft at the time of the crash. She says her husband frequently flies with the lieutenant governor and the airplane they were on recently had its engine overhauled.
"A friend of mine called me(about the incident), and that's how I found out about it," says Azalia Leonhardt. "If I would have seen this fire on the television it would have scared the daylights out of me. One of my boys almost had a heart attack."
Azalia Leonhardt says Bauer actually bought the aircraft which crashed from her husband about three years ago.
Jeremy Elliott and Allen White, two neighbors living near the crash site, were first on the scene. Elliott says he heard the plane take-off, then heard a boom. He says White got to the scene first and attempted to get the victims out, and Elliott then went to assist.
Elliott says Bauer was crawling out of the plane wreckage when he saw him.
"I asked him(Bauer) if he was alright and he said 'help him(Leonhardt), help him," says Elliott. "He said I'm alright."
Elliott says Leonhardt was still stuck in the plane. He says he and White got Leonhardt out moments before part of the plane exploded.
"I told my friend I knew these tanks are full of gas and we've got to get them out," says Elliott. "I don't don't see how they survived, since there were power lines down on them. I'm just glad they're alive."
State Senator Harvey Peeler says Bauer flew to the area to visit a friend who had a death in the family.
The Federal Aviation Administration says the plane was a Mooney M20E fixed-wing single-engine aircraft registered to Bunk Aviation in Columbia. It was manufactured in 1967.
Governor Mark Sanford issued the following statement Tuesday evening:
"I've spoken to Andr?'s attending physician and nurse, and they've both let me know he's doing fine. Although I wasn't able to speak directly to Andr? while he was undergoing treatment, he did ask through those attending to him to pass along that he is all right. I'd again ask that every South Carolinian join Jenny, the boys and me in wishing Andr? and Mr. Leonhardt 'Godspeed' for a complete recovery."
Bauer is set to face off in the GOP Primary against Dr. Henry Jordan and Mike Campbell June 13th.
Rod Shealy, Bauer's campaign strategist, said Tuesday night that they have not considered the campaign implications the incident may have. Shealy said his first reaction to the crash was fear and concern, then relief after learing Bauer's injuries were non life-threatening.
On Tuesday, Mike Campbell pulled his campaign ads running on television that evening out of respect for the situation. He also issued the following statement:
"Ruffin and I were deeply concerned to hear about the plane crash. Our thoughts and prayers are with Andre, John Leonhardt, and their families. We wish them both a healthy and speedy recovery and ask the citizens of South Carolina to join us in our prayers."
