Buy an AK with pistol grip, flash suppressor etc. Mags are cheaper, ammo is cheap and they are a lot more fun.

Okay, I'm confused. At 12:25, you want to buy "one or the other", your exact words. 11 minutes later, you state that you will be getting an AR now and an AK "later in the year", once again, your exact words.Either a lot happened to you in 11 minutes, or else the original question was pretty bogus. which is correct, or is there another explanation that I just don't see?

For fun, an AK, for accuracy, an AR. (Which is just as fun, the ammo just cost a little more as does the gun)

Ak,s are slowly going up in price. Ar,s are coming down for post ban non Colt or Bushmaster. To maximize your money I would buy the AK now and the Ar later.

And here I thought this thread was going to be about Arkansas or Alaska. Instead, I see Idsman75 behaving like usual and thinking of food.

I never wanted to own a AK-47 but last summer one on Gunbroker was going to cheep so I had to bid. The Ak is so superior to the SKS it's unbeleavable,I guess for a running gun you could carry more AR ammo.

If you want to stand in the middle of the street with a bunch of raving lunatics firing into the air and denouncing Israel and the Great Satan America, then the AK sure is the right choice.

Thats the point. I try not to be seen with my AK for that reason.

Konet,The most important question is `What do I expect of my new rifle?'I own and recommend all three. This is my best estimate of each.*****Ar15*****Manufacturers : Olympic Arms (Cheapest), Rock River Arms, Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt, DPMS, etc.Price Range : $550 and upBest Condition Offered : NewRange : 800 meters? (Varies with Manufacturer and Model)Ammo : .223Notes : The most accurate and light weight of the listed weapons. Hi-capacity rifle with relatively inexpensive magazines. Very fragile in comparison to the Sar or Yugo.*****Sar-1*****Manufacturers : Century ArmsPrice Range : $279 and upBest Condition Offered : NewRange : 300 metersAmmo : 7.62x39Notes : Low cost rifle, ammunition, and magazines. Hi-capacity rifle capable of accepting 30, 40 round magazines or drums. Reasonably accurate under 300 yards, robust design, but definitely not a match rifle.*****Yugo Sks Type 59/66*****Manufacturers : Century Arms?Price Range : $150 and upBest Condition Offered : Like - NewRange : 300 metersAmmo : 7.62x39Notes : Low cost rifle and ammunition. More accurate than the Sar. Fixed 10 Round MagazineIf you don't have the money for what you want, don't sell yourself short. Wait if you have to, you'll be happier in the long run.Munkey

This is too easy. If I need to ding a soft target at 300 meters, Col. Colt's M-4 will get it done. The 7.62 x 39 can really chew up the ammo, but lacks the accuracy. What do you expect from a weapon that was milled with a hatchet?? Heck, get em both ASAP.
I like the way you talk too Carl.

Hey Monkey,Just bought another AK; a .223 SAR-3. Quality is not so good, but ought to be a blast to shoot and the price was right. Had to do a lot of trigger work.

skipjackone,Congrats!!! I was thinking about a Sar-3 but since I got the Ar15, I'll have to wait on it. I hear the mags are a lot harder to come by. I've got a nasty little trigger slap on my Sar that I'm gonna have to adjust. Aim Surplus is selling the Ak-Drums(75 Round?) for(7.62x39 NA NA) $100!Let me know how she shoots. There's just something beautiful about them Commie-block weapons Munkey

Munk,There is a good article on 'slap' repair at www.redstararms.com . My SAR-1 was pretty bad too. You are so right about the Commies weapons, however, FAL's ain't no slouch either.
