I fly single engine piston airplanes for pleasure out of a class D airport in Northern NJ. Any other pilots out there?

I need just a few more solo hrs
Started on a piper cherokee, loved that little plane, now where I live the local only has a cessna 172, god I hate that hunk of junk, darn push throttle on dash along with lean and trim out where I have to reach for them, miss the cherokee, fuel and lean on center console and trim and * on floor right where your arm falls down to them, no reaching and looking..

    Private pilot-Airplane single engine land-gliders since 1971.
I haven't flown much in a long time & can no longer pass a medical.
My weight is a problem with both gliders & ultra-lites. The new sport pilot rating may make it possible to fly again.

MY dad just started tooling up to build a plane to fit in the sport rating class that they are supposedly working on. He used to fly in the 70's and gave it up because of not being able to support flying and a family. I think I want to get into it as well.

Shiver! Oak, walnut, cedar, poplar, elm, cherry why am I thinking about "woody" things?

I have flown a lot in ultralights and hang gliders.
I built a composite ultralight with a canard wing. That little plane was a joy to fly, open cockpit, no instruments, handled like a Porsche.

Commercial, multi-engine land, IFR. Never flown for hire though. Got all of the kudos I could at the time as the school I attended had a flight program. My HS (military boarding school) had a flight program too. Actually, I had my private ticket before I had a driver's license. Cadets were not allowed to have cars. Sort of funny on the holiday breaks - I could either fly myself home or take the bus. My medical has been expired for 5 years now. Hate to think what the rate is now even for a 152. It was $23/hr dual when I learned.
