...KEEP THE MONEY OR TURN IT IN IF THIS SITUATION EVER HAPPENS TO YOU?
GRINNELL, Iowa - Cars on both sides of Interstate 80 stopped to weather a swirling blizzard, but it wasn't snow. It was cash.
An eastbound armored truck somehow lost its load Tuesday night, sending money into the wind. Cars in both lanes stopped and tried to help recover the money.
The truck crew realized the money was missing near a rest stop, said Lt. Rob Hansen, a spokesman for the Iowa State Patrol.
"They knew they lost it and stopped immediately and attempted to retrieve it," Hansen said. "They don't know how or why (it was lost)."
Officers stopped three cars east of the cash spill and authorities were investigating whether the occupants had taken some of the money.
"Some folks ... attempted to benefit from the situation," Hansen said.
Hansen could not say whether the loss was part of a robbery or some other attempt to take money from the armored truck.
"To my knowledge this was the loss of property of no one's overt attempt," he said.
Hansen said the money in the area has been cleaned up.
"There is no reason for anybody to head out there," he said.

I though a lot about this over the weekend and wondered how I would have responded. Who would hand over the wallet to avoid further conflict, and who would say they were getting the wallet and instead get there weapon?
If you do get your gun, does it come out firing or do you give the BG a chance to leave?
...sort of like picking up pop cans and litter along the highway, you're doing a good deed, keeping the roadways clean. Never heard of anyone returning pop cans to their rightful owners.
...if Christ were riding in the car with you, would there be any doubt taking the money was the same as stealing someone elses property...after all, you know they were coming back to recover what was lost.
it had on it.[:D][:D][:D]

Clouder..
Actually, I am dumb enough to have returned found money in the past, so I probably would again. When I find a dime in the parking lot, I keep that though.

Money free-for-all on I-80 is no jackpot for 2 from Vegas

Two Las Vegas residents might have thought they'd hit the jackpot in the middle of Iowa.
Authorities said passing motorists scooped up $320,000 that spilled from an armored truck on Interstate Highway 80 near Grinnell. But only about $60,000 was returned.
Martin Egan, 22, and Gerilynne Candow, 35, both of Las Vegas, allegedly drove away with some of the loose money. They were charged Wednesday with theft.
The incident Tuesday near an I-80 rest stop produced "hysteria" as up to 60 people on both sides of the highway stopped to pick up the bills and coins that tumbled from a Lewis Systems of Iowa truck, Iowa State Patrol Lt. Robert Hansen said.
About $60,000 was recovered at the scene and in traffic stops in Iowa and Poweshiek counties, authorities said. Hansen would not disclose how much money Egan and Candow allegedly had when stopped.
Authorities believe a container of money fell from the truck because of a defect in the rear door. Lewis Systems officials declined to comment on where the money was headed, whom it belonged to, or how much was in the truck.
The cash is traceable, Hansen said.
The patrol set a deadline of 4 p.m. Saturday to turn in missing money without being charged.
Others with information that leads to the recovery of money and the conviction of suspects will be eligible for a 10 percent reward, Hansen said.
Is it or are they just hoping to get more of it turned back in?

To be honest, if i found a bale of money, say a couple of million of old bills, that were not counterfit. I would pick it up take it home, if possible to take it home, ....fondle it...., then call the cops...no...yes..no
Hell I dont know!
But in the topic, ah, maybe pickup a couple and turn the rest in.
I have found bank bags while making night deposits that had not gone down the chute. Those I put into the chute.
Finding bank bags wallets, personal stuff I try to return, hitting 100% on that.
Always found that the honest thing, seems to allways work out the best.
Thats the way I have been for 54 yrs.

But a couple of million? yes,no,yes.......?
