Learned a lesson today.....

....not entirely sure what it was. ;-)
Went into one of my LGS's last week and looked at a neat little laser sight that I thougt about putting on my Ruger SR22(handgun). No price on it, but guy behind the counter said $20.00. Didn't seem to work, but I was assured this was because customers had been "playing with it and had worn down the battery". I passed it by, mainly because there was no apparent way to make adjustments for sighting in.
Decided for $20.00 I'd risk it, and went back in today. Different clerk. STill no price tag. How much? $60.00! I told him I'd been quoted $20.00 and he said no way, they cost a lot more than that. Even though he wouldn't come down from the $60.00, I got looking at it more closely and when I unscrewed the battery cap I found a wet battery and enough corrosion to destroy the innards. Unfazed, he took the battery out (leaking at both ends) and for some reason taped it to the outside of the sight before putting it back on the shelf. Still determined not to budge from $60.
I was thinking of just walking out, but they had 1,400 round buckets of Rem. Golds for $90.00. About as good as the price gets at the moment around here, and my SR22 seems to like them just fine, so I set a bucket on the counter and continued to browse. Found a real nice Bianchi holster for a Beretta M.84. How much? $20.00.
Decided I'd take it along with the ammo. He looked at the $90.00 bucket and the $20.00 holster and said, "Total, $105.00"
With tax I'd been expecting about $116.00. I paid the man and left. Figure I got the ammo and a $10.00 holster. Normally I'd have corrected his math, but after the laser fiasco I decided not to.

    Sounds to me like the fella that owns that store needs to give a few math lessons. Personally, I'd have brought it to his attention. I like to treat folks like I would like them to treat me.

    Man has to do what he feels right doing, though.

    one of my gun stores has boxes of used holsters...they may have had $30 in the holster and sight ...no sweat the price ..now for a real item i would have had him check like s5 says

    similar situation at advance auto.

    I went to get some stuff I use that was bogo , lucas stuff and 134r cans for the ac.
    anyway the guy rang one one and put the second one beside it w/o ringing it up. ended up with a buy 1 get 3 because the computer took off the "second" item that he would ring up.

    pointed out that he was suppose to scan EACH item and let the puter deduct the second item. he has on a managers shirt and tells me that ain't how it works and he knows what he's doing. I then tell him to wait a sec and went back and got ALL the 134r they had and proceded on my way. that was when it was $5.99 a can. 4 for $5.99 is a sweet deal I'd say. that was 10 years ago and I still have a case of the stuff.[:D]

    btw that guy wasn't there the next week.

    some people insist on being wrong and in cases like this, who am I to get in their way?[:o)]

    As to pointing out errors at the register...

    I've done exactly that.
    And have gotten ridiculed for 'telling' them how to do their job more times than getting a thank you.

    The problem is that most cashiers today rely solely on the register to "tell them" what to do and what not to do.

    I doubt many today can count cash back correctly...
    They can read the register and can count the amount they'er "told" to give back.
    But, that's about where it ends.

    I remember one guy who was supposed to give me cash from a $20... Probably around $12 bucks more or less.
    When he input the amount I gave him... He input an extra zero. >> $200.00 not $20.00

    I didn't argue with him when he counted out almost $190.00 cash back to me...
    'Cause that's what the register said he owed me.
    I waited for him to finish and asked him to get his manager over that I wanted to explain something was wrong.
    The guy freaked... But, called his manager over anyway.

    I explained that the guy had counted out too much cash to me.
    The manager asked to look at the register... And said... GET THIS NOW...

    SAID... "No sir, he counted out exactly the right amount of cash. Have a good day."

    So... I did have a good day!!! [^]

    Like I said... You can't fix stupid... They know more than you do.

    He might have been trying to give you a discount for buying multiple items.....I do it without pointing out that I'm giving a discount. If you owe me $110 I'll say "give me $100 total." Maybe that was the case????

    What kind of idiot in retail doesn't have their prices CLEARLY MARKED. AT LEAST 50% of the time, if something isn't clearly marked, people will sit it back down and move on.

    This is an area where the "big guys" are blowing it when it comes to retail. Yes, it is a large amount of work to price each thing, but it HELPS SALES.......big time!

    I tried the "mark the shelf and not each item" one time. Sales dropped 30% when I started not marking each item!

    Your average consumer is clueless as to how to match up UPCs and the like to find the right price. If it has a price tag on it, there is NO confusion.
