A fun day at the Range--Took a new shooter!

Went to the Tucson Rifle Club Range today, about 40 miles outside of Tucson. Had a BLAST!

I took my friend who has never shot anything more than a pellet rifle, and he had fun too! He is interested in shooting now (a little bit!) so maybe I'll have a "convert".

Finally got my Moisin-Nagant sighted in! So now instead of shooting 8" to the left at 50 yards, it is fairly decent at 100 yards! I shot about a 6" group (I know, I know, that isn't great!) at 100 yards, but I could NOT see much of the target! The iron front sight pretty much obliterated the entire target. :)

I know it isn't that great of a group, but I could have killed a deer with it, or whatever. Plus, I didn't have a decent rest....just an ammo can. I read (somewhere) online that the old milsurp rifles were supposed to shoot about 6" groups at 100 yards. Thats just about exactly what mine did.

I think I'm getting OLD (will be 35 in 11 days) but I could barely see the dang target at 100 yards! I definately could use a scope on that rifle, those iron sites are tough!

Overall, for the $50 I spent on the rifle, its been well worth it. I hope to get a nice Bushmaster .223 soon.......should be able to shoot better, and with a nice scope.

How far can most people shoot "decently" with just iron sights? 100 yards is about my limit, I'd guess (never shot much over that with them), but I did shoot well enough to whack someone, if I had to, as they did back then in the war.
