I KNOW what I'm searching for! (auction side)

It's getting completely ridiculous over on the auction side. Users are not being given the ability search for the items they are looking for. (This is annoying me as both a buyer and seller.) I'm guessing some computer programmer has been given control over the metrics of the search programs -- and he doesn't understand certain important things about firearms.

There can be very specific words and terms people use for firearms and parts -- many of which are not easily found in any dictionary. It would be very difficult for someone to design search software that understands all the nuances of the terminology with firearms -- that is why allowing users EXACT PHRASE search is extremely important in letting them find what they are looking for.

For example; I like the M1 Carbine pistol some manufacturers have made in the past. One of the words used to describe those (based on what one manufacturer called their pistol) is "Enforcer." In the past, I've been able to search for "enforcer" and see the results I was looking for.

Under recent changes, some programmer decided that when I type in "enforcer" what I really meant to type was "enforcement" and the search results start showing hundreds of results with the word "enforcement" (there are a lot of "law enforcement" items).

I KNOW what I'm searching for!

Please, give me back the ability to choose the exact words, spelled the way I want to spell them, when doing searching. Auto-correcting me and using "fuzzy logic" is NOT helping me find what I want -- in fact, it is giving me so many results on certain searches it makes it nearly impossible to find what I'm actually searching for.

Go to Advanced Search and in the top right portion of that page is a drop down menu that will let you select 'Exact Phrase'.

I have been struggling with search as well. Just bought a rifle on GB and depending on the search terms got strange results.

If I searched for the terms "Browning BAR Left Hand" I got a list of left handed BARs. If I searched for "Left Hand Rifles" the Browning BARs were not in the results or "Left Hand 30-06".

Got what I was looking for in the end but it took some digging to find it.

Try searching for a 28 gauge shotgun. Every shotgun with a 28" barrel pops up.

Yes, we implemented a new search engine recently. And yes the old one was on the verge of being broken so we didn't do it just for poops and giggles. Yes we are still fine tuning it. If you have specific examples like these, please open a support issue so that the problems can be properly documented and engineering can correct them.

    Thx

It allows you to select "exact phrase" but the system does not do an exact phrase search.

I hope, in the continuing work being done on the system, that fixing the "exact phrase" search option will be done.
