For anyone that has ever wished a gun manufacturer would make a certain gun in a specific caliber, you will understand this. I like the 454 Casull, and I want one in a lever action rifle. Marlin doesnt make it yet, but I think they should. If you feel as I do, or even if you dont, do me a favor, email Marlin and ask them to consider making one of their wonderful lever actions in 454 Casull. Do it for me, do it for yourself, do it for the fun of seeing what will happen from it all! I figure with all the people that are registered on this site, if just 25% of them were to request this be done, they might at least start thinking about doing it, ya know? Here is their email address info@marlinfirearms.com Thanks, Ryan

What's the velocity of a standard factory round in that caliber? I assume the figure would be for a bullet exiting a six inch barrel. What would the increase in velocity likey be (same round) if the bullet had, say, 20 inches of tube to go through?

Hornady has the 300gr. xtp moving out at 1650fps, but I cant say for sure the barrel length they say thats from. As far as the velocity gain from a rifle barrel of 18" or more, I wouldnt even take a guess, as its really dependent on the barrel, and even if it would function well with the 300 gr. There could actually be a bit of difficulty in chambering a gun for this, you just never know, ya know? Actually I will guess, and say that a rifle barrel should get at least another 200 fps, but its a guess, based on an 18" barrel. Thats the length I'd want, just a slick handling carbine, with at least a 6rd. mag.

Does the .480 come in a rifle?

SSGT Roberts....I understand you desire for a barn burning pistol cartridge like that....but if you really want a lever action fun gun why don't you look into the new 1895 Winchesters in .405 Winchester. You can have a 260 or 300 grain bullet coming out of the barrel at a more than acceptable speed and you have the same type and caliber of lever gun as our greatest President....Theodore Roosevelt! I mean the rifle I use for hunting is an original 1886 Winchester in .40-82 and the original is always better than a repro...but I'm really looking at the 1895 when(or better stated if!) it actually comes out. Now of course if you just want to have two weapons and one bullet then I guess you are stuck with the 454. Beach

To the best of my knowledge, no, the 480 isnt offered in a rifle as of now.

    Thanks Sarge,

I just emailed them with the suggestion of both the .454 and .480 as complements to the Redhawks (think they'll go for complementing a Ruger?).

    Beach,
You have it figured correctly, I want a rifle chambered to match my favorite hunting cartridge in a handgun caliber. I never was interested in the .44 mag, when I had one in a revolver, because I didnt think it really was powerful enough to warrant a rifle, but the 454 now, thats a different story, now I'm interested. I dont know a lot about the 405, admittedly, but I could go with the 45-70 also, its not the match for my 454 though, ya know? The only drawback to the 454 in a lever action I can think of is that it probably wouldn't chamber the heavy lead slugs I want to cast, but thats ok, it'll still chamber the factory stuff, I'm sure.

    simonbs,
Dont be shocked when you get the email from them stating they cant answer all their email personally, I figure if they get enough of these requests they will start taking notice though. Thanks for emailing.

I'll take one. Has to be a rifle with a 34" barrel though.

Only lever guns that I know of that would take the pressures generated by the 454 are the Browning BLR and the new Winchester 1895's. The Marlin will not handle 64,000 PSI pressures and don't know of any others that will either with the exception of the 2 listed.

Rob, It looks like you are just going to have to have a custom rifle made.

Do the same thing Armalite does. Get 500 orders and then ask for it to be made. Then we all wait 6 months to a year and to hear they are on back order. Hummmmmmmmmmm

Hey, that .454 is amazing. I have been looking at it in my Stoegers Shooters Bible for the last couple of months and it shatters all the other hangun bullets. It is 5x as powerful as a 9mm or .38Spc, 4x as a .40 S&W, 3x as powerful as a .357 magnum, and almost 2 times as powerful as a .44 Magnum. Truly fantastic. I want to get one in a Taurus Raging Bull with a 6 or 8 inch barrel. Only one thing stands between me and that gun, 750$!!!
