AR as coyote gun

I see AR's used for hunting coyotes all the time. Are they just run of the mill carbines, or are they more set up for hunting? My real question is this : Is a standard 16" AR a good setup for coyotes, or not really? What kind of accuracy do the AR's really have?

Sure it is. Use a soft point bullet. A carbine will easily kill at 200 yards.

What makes you think it's not?

AR's have virtually replaced the typical hunting rifle. Have you seen how many different makes, models and option that are available?

The AR market is cooling very very fast. Most likely because the new craze is building your own. The will be some very very good deal on AR's between now and early summer.

Then the rush will hit with everyone buying up everything they can touch if it even remotely looks like Obama can win the election.

I'm just asking if it is. I would think it would be sufficient. I'll say though, a buddy bought a "inexpensive" AR, and he's having all kinds of trouble getting it to sight in and hit accurately. Not sure if it's him or the gun though.[:I] Anyway, I was just asking how accurate to expect it to be.
I had an SKS that was reasonably accurate at 100 yds. Certainly not a tack driver, but 2-3" groups. Beyond that range and it got worse fast.

So, along those lines, what will an AR do?

ARs of any deccent manufacture can easily achieve 1 MOA, a few even guarentee sub MOA at 100 yards

I think "decent manufacturer" is up for debate. If you're looking for match grade accuracy, I would expect you would need a match grade gun. I'm asking about the base model Bushmaster, RRA, DPMS, Delton, etc.

If it's a DPMS. call them. they have an accuracy guarantee and will let you send t back and they will make sure it's accurate. If you suspect that operator error is the most likely culprit the shoot it in a vice for him.

I love killing yotes with a 7.62 pill coming out of the barrel of a SKS

RRA has an accuracy guarantee as well.

Run the Bushmaster Upper chambered in .450

It mounts onto your standard .223/5.56 lower and the 250 grain round will knock the socks off a yote within about 200 yards.

I'd think a 300 AAC BLK would work well for coyotes too. 7.62X35

An AR carbine that holds 1-1.5" @ 100 yards with a decent scope will make a 250 yard coyote rifle. Beyond that the higher velocity of the 20" barrel will improve performance out to 300. After 300, you get into all sorts of variables including bullet performance, wind drift, and bullet drop at which point, I shift to a real long range rifle.
