John Walker Lindh

I haven't seen any comments on John Walker Lindh posted, so I'm just going to ask what everyone thinks of this guy. Especially any active duty military guys (or gals) out there. I just read where he pleaded guilty to aiding the Taliban. If I remember correctly he could get 20 years in the pen. His dear old dad thinks that 20 years is too much for "that boy" as he called him. Personally, I think the little * is lucky. If the same situation had occured in WWII he would probably face a firing squad, or if he had been a U.S. serviceman he would have been court-martialed and hung from the end of a rope.
He may not have fired a shot or set off a bomb, but he is an accessory by virtue of carrying weapons and training with the Taliban.

Any thoughts?

Lawyers for Lindh are asking for a change of venue. The current trial location (Washington D.C.) is too close to the Pentagon. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'd have to say that the little twerp is lucky that some quick thinking Marine didn't hose his butt down when he first saw him. Nobody would have known that he was an American, he would have been just another DNA sample on the desert floor.

His Dad said "Any Father would be glad to have a son like John".
I damn near kicked the TV. His sentence is supposed to be without Parole. We'll see.

I have a friend with a son who robbed two banks with a Toy Gun two years ago. He had a public defender. He got out in less than two years. He was playing Golf last week.

When I first heard about the American Talib Lindh months ago, I thought that his American nationality should be revoked and that he should be sent to some country who wanted him, but I did not share the viseral hatred for the little jerk that some have demonstrated. Admittedly, I became much less forgiving when his lawyers started pulling their usual shenanigans about supressing his early statements, and if anyone can show that he took an active part in the prisoner uprising that killed the CIA agent, he can dangle in the wind for all I care, but if he was just a misguided idiot that got caught up in a war that didn not involve Americans when he joined up, I have a hard time justifying putting him in the slammer until he's middle-aged. With those standards, any American who served either in the Abraham Lincoln Brigade or on the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War could have expected to be tried for treason had the United States become involved in that war.

If they put him in the slammer, I'd give him about an hour before he assumes room temperature. Even the people in prison won't put up with that kind of crap. Look at Jeffery Dahlmer. How long did he last? And I bet he was a real "Party Girl" while he was in there.

His dad was on the news tonight and told the reporter that Nelson Mandella had spent twenty years in prison and his son John was a good man just like Nelson.

So I guess he thinks of his son's sentence as a political persecution.

The only Justifiable Sentence for this Crime is

    Public Execution!

If there was any justice in this world, him and his parents would be flogged side-by-side on the steps of the Capital.

Give him a taste of Heinlein justice and see if he's proud to admit his crimes.

I can almost hear the "normal" prisoners talking now: "Hey, sure I rob banks, but I love the US and I'm gonna stick a shank in this punk!"

It almost gives me a modicum of satisfaction that IF he survives his sentence, he'll have the experience of being unable to show his rotten face in public ever again for fear of his life.

I have always thought that no matter where you sympathize with where you are born are yor people.Even if he didnt tote a rifle or ship explosives he should be executed like a trator to this country.Hell American politicians make decisions evryday I dont agree with but I am American and I wouldnt sell this country out to anyone. My father always told me growing up "Two things worth dying for is family and country"And I will tell the same to my children. If we can die for our country shouldnt he die for going against it.I dont see a damn thing entitling him to special treatment and plea deals. What because he used to be American? He chose to sell his country out! What because his parents are still American? They should have taught him somthing of loyalty and love of country!Dont cry now because your son took the bite..make him chew it.

Walker was a traitor. He will not get any retrial or win any appeal.
His lawyers were smart in taking the deal as he would have received many more years had they convicted him on all charges. They should have made him face a firing squad, he deserved no less for treason.

Ruger...bank robbery is a federal crime. I do not know what district you are in however the federal minimum mandatories would still be in affect. The charge this guy's son faced was not 2 counts of bank robbery if it resulted in less than 2 years in prison.

Or this guy was not alone in the robbery and testified against the others at trial. One or the other....no way it could be anything else.

One more correction...it is Public Pretender they are worthless whores.

Since he enlisted in a foreign military, he should have immediately lost his citizenship. That being the case, since when do we try people in foreign militaries as civilians? He is a POW. If this does not apply, then why are we not charging all of the POWs with the same crimes?

The weapons charges would have a hard time sticking, when they happened in a country where they are not illegal weapons. One is not charged with a crime in the US when it is not a crime in the country it was done in, unless it is considered an international crime.

Sorry but I feel he should not have to serve this sentence until Jane Fonda has her day in court. I just cannot understand the hue and cry about him and nothing about Ms Fonda.
People are trying to make this guy next in command to Osama without a shred of evidence. He was dragged wounded and starving from a celler in a prison and people want to string him up. True he joined the Taliband. Maybe he just liked to beat women with sticks but he joined them way before the US got involved and way before the towers incident. Heck, even some of the hijackers didn't even know they were on a one way trip.
If you really want to excoriate someone, look to Ms Fonda or that real American patriot Johnny Walker Who gave the Russians our codes for 20 years and caused untold American deaths. Or Aldrich Ames who compromised our Russian network and had all our agents there killed. And the list goes on. The FBI agent who gave the Russians everything that Ames didn't.
I think Lindh really got railroaded because someone wants a scapegoat and he was handy. Let's give him a trial and hang him?? For what?? Maybe we should just hang him first and then give him a trial? I gave this country 30 years of service to avoid stuff like this.I think the US was very happy to make this deal since they didn't have anything to back them up.
Having said all the above, I am not defending Lindh. I think we have far greater Traitors who deserved far more attention than this guy is getting. After Jane Fonda has her day in court, then we can try Mr Lindh. Tom

Twins makes a good point with which I completely agree.

Having said that, let me say how disapppointed I have become with the Bush Adminstration! Our president is going around the country giving speechs about how we will hunt down our enemy and bring them to justice. Well, Mr President, you cannot call what happened to Johnny Walker justice! It is a farce!

While we are at it, what about blocking the arming of airline pilots?
The president, his Transportation Secretary, Norman Minetta, and his Director of Homeland Security, Tom Ridge are all against it. What a joke. No one seems to remember the young stewardess on that hijacked plane who had her hands tied behind her back and her throat slit. Bet she would have liked to have an armed pilot, or anyone else aboard.

The stock market is in the tank. Mr. President, your plate is full. I think it,s time to get busy.

    GOD BLESS AMERICA

The little scumbag renounced his U.S. citizenship when he joined the military forces of another country. By doing so, he gave up any rights that are afforded to a United States citizen. He should have been sent to Cuba with the rest of the virmin, faced a military tribunal and executed.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

    Barrelbob;

Ha acted alone. I'm just as shocked as anyone. I expected him to get 20 years. A toy gun counts the same as a real gun in PA. I'll have to make a call and find out how he got out. He had no one to Snitch on.
