Harare, Zimbabwe-AP -- Ruling party militants in Zimbabwe are trying to oust a family of white farmers in a bid to enforce a government eviction order.

It's been a week since a deadline passed for 29-hundred white farmers to abandon their land. Today's confrontation northeast of the capital is the most serious bid so far to enforce the plan.

The government's land-reform program is aimed at ending colonial-era imbalances by taking land from white farmers and giving it to blacks.

Critics say it's part of the government's effort to maintain power amid more than two years of economic chaos and political violence.

A group formed to support the white farmers says militants have been dragging belongings out of the farm house while the owners hide in locked rooms inside along with visiting reporters.

The group says police have been called out but are not intervening.

    It is so hard to make comments about this and similar situations in Africa and not sound like a racist. The whites will, in the end, lose. They are grossly out-numbered and the world does not care. Their only option is to get out with their lives while they can. Then we will watch the entire go to hell in a handcart while the corrupt government & their 'entitled' ("colonial-era imbalances," after all) followers demand the rest of the world send them money and other assets to keep their economy afloat. Perhaps we can send them Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, the Klintoons and Jimmy Carter to fix things for them.

    greetings, it's really sad that this is happening, generations of farmers forsed off their land, sounds like the us a couple decades ago. the really sad thing is when dutch settlers first came to the horn of africa, there were only a few tribes in certain areas of south africa and none in rodiesia. indisrminant immigration led to their down fall, some thing we again should address. respt submitted dads-freehold

    Im sure SoF are now considered terrorists in todays world. Im sure the blacks will treat those white farmers well, after all the government knows best and has only the best in mind for the people it governs.
