German shorthair puppy

A coyote killed my 3 yr old German Shorthair last-nite, I saw the ot'y run over the hill, then saw the carcass of my dog next to the road.
I always thought she was to quick and agile to be caught by an ot'y Maybe there was more than one coyote and they left before I showed up.
OH WEll, life go's full circle sometimes. I killed seven of them oty's this winter.
My wife and son took it hard. The wife says she has no mercy for Oty's and she wants me to kill em all. I cant beleve that coming from a So-Kal girl. (cool)

Only $600 invested in the mutt.

New puppy time. Anybody know a shorthair breeder in the western U.S.

A hot barrel, is a warm fuzzy feeling.

Best hunter I ever had was a German Shorthair. Best noise of any dog in the county. His name was Fritz. He was a good guard dog, a great hunter, and part of the family. Lost him to old age. If you felt 1/2 of what I felt, I understand. 16 years with the same hunting buddy is hard to end. Get another one! I did.

I'm looking for a male Blue - to have a little date with mine. Then we can all have one. I've actually thought about a German short hair Bluetic mix. Ahh - no market - I could trade for a few guns - Hummm, puppys for guns, sounds good.....

    Blue Tic,
You can have my female if you want it. My wife is trying to make her a house dog, but we have a 8 week old and it is not working out to well. I have never trained her to hunt and she is 2 1/2 years old. Great watch dog, barks at anything with legs, but doesn't have an aggresive bone in her body. The good thing is, nobody knows that but us. She needs to be with other dogs, or have some sort of companion, and we just don't have time to entertain her anymore.

Wow and we were shook up at 3 years, 16 is a long dogs life.

Today we went to Cosco and bought, The New Encyclopedia Of The Dog.

Did you know there are 400 different breeds.

I dont know what I got the book for , the wife says it's going to be another GSP and her name is going to be Mocha....There I go $$$$$

I had a German shorthair years ago. He was the birdiest dog I've ever had. Maybe not the best I've ever seen; but he did his job finding the birds. I don't think you can find a better breed of bird dog...yeah yeah I know there are a lot of breeds out there. Only problem was he was one of the most hyper animals I've ever seen. Not the greatest around kids. Beach

    ysacres,

Your right. 16 years is a long time, and he still hunted up to 14 years old. Fritz was the best. Snuffy (the replacement) gets a little distracted if he smells a deer, but he's a pretty good dog.

    Beach,

Both of mine have been great around kids, although you don't want to spank one. If the kid starts crying or screeming, the dog will bite whoever is hitting the kid. Very protective!

Sorry about your dog. I have a great Shorthair. Old Buck is a little rambunctious and hard headed but I love that dog, and boy is he birdy. My advice get another quick, you can't go wrong.

I lost both of my shorthairs to old age two years ago. I replaced them with two more. My shorthairs are brothers, they are 16 months old. and they are excellant hunters. I had them trained last fall by a gal in Iowa. Great Job, excellent trainer. For upland bird hunting I wouldn't have any other breed. They have a great disposition and great noses. I love them. I really like to watch them work. I could go on for hours about the shorthair. It's the only dog for me. Nebraska Pheasants don't have a chance.
