Had mild to sharp pains all day but I lay down at 9PM but by 9;30 I had to get my neighbor to take me to the hospital. All I really wanted was pain pills but they inisited on the dye/xray thing. I was there 4 hours and while there the pain left completely without benefit of pain killers. I suppose it must have passed but the xrays did show others in the kidney so I have more fun to look foreward to down the line. If you have never had one, it can be one killer pain. Tom

Been there done that. Probably the most painful thing a person can go through. Didn't know what it was at first, had pain one day for about 2 hrs and it disappeared. Came back 3 mths. later and stayed. Dr said they were small and would move around, took care of them with meds. Had them last fall on the other side and had to have a outpatient thing done with a laser or something, really don't remember what they called it, I'll see if I can't find the forms and get back with you. Drink LOTS of water. NO POP OR TEA, had one Dr say a beer was ok the other one said no. Didn't matter, not much on beer anyway. GOOD LUCK.

The passing of kidney stones are Gods way of letting a man feel the pain a woman goes thru during child birth...

tccox- can't you get lithotripsy to knock out the remaining stones?

Roses, I have heard that one before. I can't believe a woman would want to do that twice!! Allen, lithotripsy is a treatment if it won't pass by its self. 80% will pass by themselves. The main thing is pain management. If not too painful you can usually wait them out. I was in hospital for 2 weeks about 15 years ago with another bout. Maybe if I just ingore them they will go away?? Tom

I can relate....and sympathize. Had my first about a year and a half ago, and then one on the other side a year later. WOW.... But, I guess I was fortunate that the pain only lasted a few hours, went to the emergency room both times, though the second didn't seem as bad as the first. Funny thing is, it's hard to know exactly what caused them, or how long they've been there....so how do you know how to prevent them?

The first ones I had were from too much milk, or that's what I was told (calcium). They were small and I passed them with no problem. The second time was one around a quarter inch. They gave me morophine when it kicked the first time and two days later broke it up with the laser, I was put to sleep so I wouldn't move. Felt good for 36 hrs and the pieces started dancing around and that was the worst pain I've ever had. Passed pieces of that sucker for a week. Never did find out what caused that one. The dr thought I'd had for a while and it started moving, that's when they let you know they're there. DON"T wait it out, small or large they can knock you down, if you've had them before it can get worse.

As far as preventing them, the only thing I've ever been told is to drink lots of water so now I go thru about a gallon in 2 days. I haven't quit drinking milk, pop, or tea, I just don't do as much as I used too. Hang in there, I feel your pain. (Damnit)

Know what you are going thru,I have had too many to even count them,I had one busted back in Feb. over an inch in diameter.

BTW.BlackRoses,I have had a number of women tell me they had rather had a baby than a kidney stone, thankfully I do not have to prove that statement.

Urologist that did my lithotripsy said that peanuts and chocolate also contribute to kidney stones.
And "WHY" do the dang stones have to be formed with all the sharp and jagged points?

Never had them(Thank God!), but I'm still young. I have heard that drinking Cranberry juice will help break them down. Any validity to this?

Guy I hunt with had some bad ones. They put him in a tank of water and sent sonic booms at very high frequency through his body for several hours a few times. It worked well from what he said. I don't know what that was called, but it worked.
