Wouldn't it be great if a state completely left the power grid and produced it's own electricity? Sell it to folk for the going Market price, use the profits to fund Govt. projects and keep the system up to date?

To heck with the capitalist market.

They had a deal like that going in Montana. They had a big power co. that supplied power to just about the whole state. They had real cheap reliable power. It was a great career to work for the power co. Grannies who had power co. stock had a bulletproof pension.
Then some big company bought out the Montana power co, made everyone a bunch of promises on how they would improve things, make the stockholders a bunch of money.
In a few years the power co. was ruined. Power in Montana quadrupled in price. The president of the new company was out of a job, but he had a new 3 million dollar log cabin on the lake and a huge pension. When people passed him by on the street they would tell him he better get a Kevlar vest.
