"When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops,"

LOL[:D]
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Wal-Mart, the nation's largest retailer, is not selling comedian George Carlin's best-selling new book, "When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops," in its stores because its cover makes fun of the "Last Supper," a spokesman for Carlin says.

But Wal-Mart spokeswoman Karen Burk said Thursday the book was not being stocked in Wal-Mart stores because the company felt it "would not appeal to a majority of our customers." She added Wal-Mart was selling the book online.

Burk said 3,500 copies of the book sent mistakenly to Wal-Mart stores had been returned to a distributor because they were not ordered.

Carlin spokesman Jeff Abraham said Wal-Mart did not like the book's cover that shows the comedian in the setting of Leonardo da Vinci's "Last Supper" sitting next to an empty chair where Jesus sits in the painting.

"They did not like the cover because it was a parody," Abraham said, adding: "George attacks everything in this book but it does not have any nude photos. He said he thought the title would offend everyone."

A spokesman for Hyperion Books, which publishes "When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops," was not immediately available for comment.

Gotta buy it only because it is being banned. Notice that Wal-Mart is pulling the book only from its stores--they are still selling it! (they wants da money).

This has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the books content (or lack thereof).

They just dont want a book on their shelves that will scare and anger the moral majority shopping thru their stores. No point in causing anger and protests over a book that probably isnt going to sell terribly many copies anyway.

On the other hand its on their website, you can't "accidentally" run into it and make a big stink.

This appears ideologically inconsistent only if you don't consider that Walmart's ideology is simply to make as much money as possible.

Lowrider: quote: Don't worry, Hairball, Wal-Mart is going to keep selling the Gay Pride magazine. Why are you telling us this? Has your subscription run out and you want someone from the Forum to purchase copies for you--do you want them mailed to you in a plain brown envelope too?

Have you stopped using your slogan yet?: "Lowrider, Easy Access; He's already low on the pole." [:D]

Not to rain on the Federal Bureau of Indignation Parade here, but where exactly does Wal-Mart get off on imposing itself as the moral compass for the US?

I've never been a fan of Censor-Mart, and surely not now. They sanitize all their CDs of curse-words and don't tell anyone! What a bunch of friggin' authoritarian fascists...I hate that crap.

Hairy I would love to hear your take on that book. It looks totally tasteless.

Boy, didn't think George Carlin and his off the cuff/wall humor was a sore spot.[:)] Ya gotta admit his humor might be in poor taste, but he also gives an ounce of truth with his logic that you can't deny.
