Spammers on GB.

I am not very good with PC talk but I have noticed over the last week that I will get a popup while on GB prompting me that I need to let a program change my PC and ask me to save file. I do however know enough not to follow such prompts. I would just like to warn all of you that this is going on and hoping to save someone a lot of grief if they are really new to computers. Do Not follow those prompts.[xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(]

    [:o)]
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

There is a solution to your wows. I know GB.com makes money on the adds and that's a good thing! However you can control the content "Add's" that show up in your browser.

Popups are not a GunBroker ads. Malware. Go get Malwarebytes. Free version will be OK.

Hedog, I run a popup blocker, Mcafee, defender, malwarebites "the one you pay for not the free one" and a registry cleaner,,About once a week I still get poop here,,and it only happens here on GB no other forum or site I frequent. I just got one from something called simplesoft asking if it could make changes. I like it here and I dont complain but there is trouble here. I get warnings all the time the security certificate is bad. My point is its never a bad idea just to give a warning

To be clear about it, the Spammers are not likely to be on GB, they are on lots of personal computers all over the world.

Adware has become sufficiently sophisticated to track your activity and present ads that are calculated to fit your internet habits. Or at least to react to a prime site you happen to visit. GunBroker.com is a major site for internet commerce, so naturally malicious Adware targets the site. But it is doing it from your computer, not from GunBroker's servers.

Anyone who is seeing such things is inadequately protected against adware or some other type of malicious software. What you can do is explore what you have already done.

Are anti-virus, anti-adware, anti-malware all current in both their software "engines" and definition files? Is your browser up to date? Your operating system too, are all security updates installed? Have any features in your suite of security software been disabled? Have complete scans been run recently?

I run Kaspersky, MalWareBytes, AdBlockPlus and NoScript. Security updates are set for automatic download and install for Microsoft, Mozilla and all security software. Have not seen a popup or webpage hijacking in a very long time.

I know that advertising supports this forum and pays the bills here so this is a delicate subject that could put someone (me) in hot water with Fearless Leader.Hopefully he's having a delicious lunch or an adult beverage on the beach and this slips by him.

People should listen and pay attention to guys like you, ChrisIn Tempe and others that advise those having problems to use Firefox as a browser and what protection and addons to use to stay ahead of the frustrating issues that plague them.

A "Sticky" would be nice but, that ain't gonna happen.[B)]

Most here having problems are using browsers other than Firefox or so I understand.
Funny how that works ain't it.

I'm using firefox and was getting that damn angels website popping up in a new tab. Adblockplus put an end to it.

Just down loaded NoScripts not sure if I like it makes the page look funky.

NoScript is a powerful tool, but it does take some effort. You eventually build up a "White List" of allowed websites and the inconvenience of so many Java scripts being stopped goes away.

The problem with Java scripts is they can be used for so much that is good about the internet, making complex or simple webpages work, while at the same time much chicanery can be accomplished as well. Learning to use it is what finally stopped the last of the banners, the last of the pop-open browser windows to be put an end to.

One thing that sold me on keeping NoScript was when I'd see a page had only a few scripts to it, but allow one and it would call up even more. Sometimes the list of scripts wanting to run would explode by a dozen, or two dozen. All different web sites, different commercial services, different unidentifiable internet creations.

I encourage people to try because it is so powerful. But I don't pick on anyone for not wanting to use it. It's easier for me because it is one of the fields I work in, that's all.

I use Chrome and used to have your problem. Adblock solved the problem.
    I did send Adblock $20.
