My oldest just passed her nursing school entrance exam! It's a 4hr test. The result is no surprise, to me, but a relief and a key first step to getting into the nursing program she wants to attend this spring.

    Congrats, Mr. P.

    A profession much in demand.

Thanks Don. It's a profession with an extremely high drop-out/attrition rate, thus the demand, but the competition for school entrance is still extremely difficult as the number of spots in the program is quite limited.

Neatest thing about Nursing, is that it is a PORTABLE profession! She can work where she wants, changing locales whenever she desires.

Very good. My daughters nursing class started out with around 50 students and less than ten made it to graduation. My daughter made it and passed the RN test the first time. She started her first job $25 and hour with a 5k signing bonus and that was 7 years ago.

Congrats to your daughter, mr. P.
I helped my first wife through LPN school, that was hard enough. She came home crying, many days.
During her clinicals at the mental hospital, they still did shock therapy. Thank God they did away with that barbaric practice.
It takes a special person, not just a smart person...

My niece just moved to Seattle to work at the Seattle Children's Hospital. She is peds cardiac ICU nurse. She was recruited from DC for her expertise in that area. Apparently Seattle has one of the top children's hospitals in the country, she was looking there, Denver and Houston. She's 26 and knocking down some serious money. two of my sister's are nurses too, ones BSN and other other MSN. Good money in that field, one works from home making $80K a year working for an insurance company approving rehab care. The other makes $100K plus work for the Joint Commission doing assessments.

No, she's not. Her desired program is with WSU in their ICNE program. My wife did the WWAMI thing back when she was in school.

Seattle Children's is an amazing hospital for sure. And no doubt about it, the money is good, especially on call. The real drawbacks are the backbreaking work and the hours.

My wife has had a hard time with trying to transition to another field because her pay has been so good for so long.

My wife is a nurse. My two sister-in-laws are nurses (one just got her nurse practitioner degree and the other's mother is a retired nurse). So, lots of nurses in the family from which my daughter can draw knowledge and tips from. For that I am glad.

Good choice. My wife passed through the Intercollegiate Center for Nursing Education back in 1984. It is an outstanding program that creates top quality nurses. Full disclosure: I may be a bit biased. [8D]

Good deal! You are talking about RN, I trust.

I worked in a hospital for 14 years and I knew many nurses. That is a great profession, you put in a good year as a rookie out of RN school, and you can move to any spot in America and you will have a good paying job in about 15 minutes.
You can work in the ER if you like combat, you can work in neonatal ICU if you like tiny babies, you can work in a Doc in the Box if you just want to see minor cases like 10 stitches in the arm or a bee sting.

One of my paramedic buddies wanted a job where he got more pay and more respect, he got his RN ticket.
Today he works in a cardiac cath lab up in north Atlanta, he told me the other day he BRINGS HOME $1,700 a week.

RN school is tough and lots of bright boys and girls get washed out.
Your daughter has to lay off of the parties and hit the books hard if she wants to remain in school
