Replace with Indigenous people day.

I think an Indigenous people day is fine.

But why get rid of Columbus day? What did Chris do that was bad?

FWIW one of my favorite Army Cadences was the 1492 cadence. That was back when you could sing dirty cadences[;)]

Here it is for ya'll

quote:
In fourteen hundred and ninety-two,
A Dago from Portallie,
Went waltzing down the streets of Spain,
A selling hot tamales.

(Chorus)
He said the world was round, oh!
He said it could be found, oh!
That hypothetical, *,
Son-of-a-*, Columbo.

He walked right up to the Queen of Spain,
And he begged for ships and cargo.
He said, "I'll be a son-of-a-*,
If I don't bring back Chicago."

(Chorus)

They set sail on three ships next day.
One was a triple-decker.
The Queen, she waved her handkerchief.
Columbo waved his pecker.

(Chorus)

The first mate's name was Higgins.
My God, he had a big'un.
They wrapped it twice around the ship.
The rest they used for riggin'.

(Chorus)

The second mate's name was Carter.
My God, he was a farter.
The wind wouldn't blow, the ship wouldn't go.
So, Carter the farter would start her.

(Chorus)

The cabin boy, the cabin boy,
That dirty little nipper.
He lined his * with broken glass,
And circumcised the skipper.

(Chorus)

The Captain lived, the Captain loved.
The Captain's name was Morgan.
He lay on the deck a physical wreck,
And played with his sexual organ.

(Chorus)

The Captain's wife was Mabel.
My God, she was quite able!
She gave the crew their daily screw,
Upon the chart room table.

(Chorus)

For days and days, and nights and nights,
They sailed the broad Atlantic.
If not for the thought of a piece of *,
The sailors would be frantic.

(Chorus)

They spied a whore upon the shore,
And off came shirts and collars.
In thirteen hours by the clock,
She'd made ten thousand dollars.

(Chorus)

In days of old when knights were bold,
And rubbers not invented.
They pulled wool socks up over their cocks,
And babies were prevented.

(Chorus)

In days of old when knights were bold,
And toilets not invented,
The dropped their load beside the road,
And strolled away contented.

Sorry, there were no Indigenous people on this continent. They are all immigrant settlers.

Indian tribes we're here long before any boat landed. My ancestors from the Pottawatomie band would disagree.

....and they walked across from Mongolia to Alaska....so, they settled this land...immigrants...I'm part Indian, but I accept the plan...

What did Chris do that hadn't been done before?
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

they can disagree all they want, but it don,t change the fact, that north America was for a very long time empty with no humans at all. they are not sure how or when the first humans came here, some say they walked and others say by some kind of boat. BUT FOR SURE their origin was not north America. my myopic.

I get that somewhat, but the OP was discussing 1492. If we're going back to knuckle dragging, things were just a little different.

How many centuries does a species have to inhabit land until they are considered natural born (insert your preference)?

I guess we have different opinions on indigenous.

America would still be a nomadic continent, if Europeans had stayed in Europe!

History is the story of a powerful people conquering a weaker people.
In the first century AD my people, the Celts, ruled England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. The Romans came over, and not because they were braver, or better warriors, but because they were better orgainized, they conquered our lands. They slaughtered many of my ancestors.

They took over England and Wales, had to leave the Scots and Irish alone, too much trouble.
They ruled our lands for 400 years. They took many Celtic people as slaves, and sent them back to Rome to work hard labor, or as sex slaves.

The Romans flaked out after 400 years, and the Angles and Saxons, barbarians from Germany, crossed the channel and conquered England.
That is why we have so many German words in our language.

And so it has gone for many thousands of years.

I know the Indians had a good thing going in North America prior to Columbus, but the white man was better organized, and had better weapons, so he conquered the Indians.

The American Indians routinely slaughtered one another, even before Columbus arrived. Slavery was routine in pre-Columbian North America.
