Would .58 caliber black powder rifle be too large for white tail?

    Maybe, I would try it out on a .22 first to see how it does. I'm impressed that you would think the White Tail would be up to try shooting though.

    I have killed several whitetail with the .58
    I was shooting a Zouave Civil War replica, with the minie ball.
    I also killed 2 wild hogs with this rifle.

    No it is not too big for the white tail, it is just right! That big slug will go right through the lungs. If you make a shoulder shot, it will also go right through and in to the lungs.

    This big flying lead brick goes much slower than a centerfire slug, so you get less meat damage.

    I would call it a perfect whitetail load, and you probably will find that the deer drops faster than if you had hit it with a 30 06.


    ps I also killed one deer with that rifle, and a .570 round ball. Hard to tell any difference, the huge round ball is a great deer killer.
