What type of gun did you buy and why? Feels good doesn't it? was it 9-11? Or were you going to do it anyway?

First gun I ever bought as a young person was a bolt action Marlin .22 with a scope, very accurate and fun plinking. First gun I ever shot was my Granddad's Winchester model 12 16-ga. which I borrowed from Dad to go hunting for rabbit. First serious gun I ever shot was Dad's M1 carbine, which he taught me and my brother how to shoot during the civil unrest of the 60s. First serious gun I bought for myself (predictably) was for home defense -- a Remington 870 SP (cylinder bore) with an 18-1/2" barrel and load extender. Still have that one. I picked up the handgun interest shortly thereafter. First handgun was a Bulldog Pug w/ pocket hammer and Silvertips. Second was a Star PD, probably also Silvertips. (I didn't have as much money in those days, but these were still very good guns for the prices I paid.) Third was an early Glock 17 (Nyclad 124-gr.), then a 19. I've owned a combination of handguns since then, but always at least one Glock. And I've bought back a Pug and a PD, because I missed both after selling them.

First gun was a Semi-Auto 22 Remington I think ( 1971?). Most accurate .22 I have ever had. 9/11 prompted me to re-evaluate what I had and lured me back into "Gun Addiction" I bought a Crossfire MK1 Combo gun 12ga/.223 pump. I have not stopped buying since.

The first gun I ever bought (as opposed to shot) was a new Mossberg 12 gauge with a pistol grip. Yes it was due to 9/11. It was on the recommendation of a knowledgeable person who said a shotgun was the thing to have for home defense. But darn it, for me it wasn't fun to shoot and I didn't get a good feeling buying it. I even got a regular stock for it, but that didn't make me like it any better. (I know that some people like shotguns. Probably if you have good experiences hunting or trap shooting it's different.)So the second gun I bought was a used Marlin Camp 9 carbine. Now that one is fun to shoot and I got a good feeling buying it for several reasons, including being fun to shoot, the fact that it's the hard-to-find N (nickel plated barrel) version, and let's not forget that it came with a 12-round pre-ban magazine. Only one problem: my wife likes to shoot it and she thinks of it as "our" (= her) gun. I'm welcome to shoot the shotgun.I also got a Ruger PC9, which I don't like as well although it is a perfectly serviceable gun and fun to shoot except the trigger pull stinks. So here I am, having purchased my first three guns in less than six months, and I'm not satisfied. So I put a deposit down last week for a used S&W 5906 9mm pistol, which I will get once my permit clears. It's a sickness, I tell you, a sickness!PS - At the range today, while my wife was shooting, she said, "Did you get a pistol yet?" She didn't know about the deposit I had just put on one. Gotta love 'em, female intuition or what? I figure I've got at least six months to shoot it after I get it and she finds out she can't shoot it until she gets her own permit. "Sorry honey, the State of New York says you can't touch my new pistol until you get a permit. Meanwhile, you can use the Marlin."[This message has been edited by Gordian Blade (edited 03-09-2002).]

The first gun I bought with my own money was a Bersa Thunder .380 , and that was a week ago. I've had a 38spl. for 15 years but it was a gift,,,there is definatly a difference in just having one and buying one. I got it because I didn't want to carry that heavy 38spl,,,,,and I like to shoot so this may not be my last purchase either!! By the way,,,I love my new gun, already shot 80 rounds thru it.

The first gun I bought was in 1962, when I turned "of age." It was a nickle-plated Harrington & Richards double action 22 revolver with a 9 shot cylinder. Found it at a little gun store in Grand Prairie, Texas--paid $10 which, at the time, was a lot of money.I have since paid several thousand dollars for some guns but was never more proud of any than I was that little H&R.

My first was a Winchester 94 in 30-30, year 1970. I thought Chuck Connors, the Rifleman, was so cool the way he could cycle his rifle with one hand. I tried it, almost broke my wrist, dropped it and cracked the butt stock. That Winchester 94 only cost $74.00 with tax back then. Now, more than 100 guns later, I'm still a kid at heart and wish I had a rifle I could cycle like that. Yep, it is a sickness, but oh so fun!Come to think of it, gas was 25 cents /gallon at the time. Mine was a Mossberg 500 also. Had lots of fun blowing up rotten cantaloupes with that one. First handgun was a Ruger P89. GORDIAN BLADE - You gotta get a 10/22! Those are a blast to shoot, the most reliable of the 22 rifles (i think so) and ammo is dirt cheap.

The first gun I bought was in 1975, Remington 1100 and I still have it. It took me all summer of cutting lawns and paying back my dad a little at a time. When fall came I believe I still owed him about $25-30. One of my Christmas presents that year was a little box with a note in that said "One Remington 1100-Paid in full". One of the best presents I ever got.KC

My first gun was a ruger 10/22.... by the way gordian blade it is not the most reliable of the 22's out there.... the clips must be cleaned after every outing ....otherwise you are guarantied a jam.... its still fun though. after that came a spree of many others... including my favorite...The mighty m-14

My first gun I bought was a Ruger 10/22. I dont know what someone is shooting through his, not saying hes full of it or anything, but I have never cleaned a mag for my 10/22, and I have never had one jam, except for the time I shot over 500 rds. in one day, and the bolt face got real dirty, thats the only jam I've had in 20 years with a 10/22. I sold that first 10/22, stupid stupid stupid stupid!!! Bought another one after I got out of the Air Force, and had the same one ever since.

First I shot was a Remington 12 guage, when I was about 10 or so, my dads way of telling me "guns are bad", and sure enough after 5 shots, a discoloration on my shoulder in the shape of the butt of a stock, i went back out the next day and resumed learning to shoot. i dont think my dad took to kindly to my liking of rifles, especially at age 10, so he traded my grandmother the 12 guage for her ex-husbands Marlin .22 LR semi-auto rifle, with scope... after about 2 loadings of the built on magazine (under the barrel) I had the scope figured out and plinked a quarter (25 cent peice) at about 50 yards (150 steps my dad called it) dented washingtons head sure enough, i think my dad still has that quarter in his night stand. First gun i ever bought with money was a Ruger p-89 when i was XX (had to leave that out for legal purposes), it was silver with black custom grips, had a 10mm barrel installed, and a few other things, i wasnt that into handguns at the time, so i never really paid much attention to the add-ons, but it was the most beautiful thing I ever saw in my life at the time, and had to have it. So i talked to my friend (his dad owned it) and for 200 i had it, ABS case, 2 10mm clips with hollow tips already in them, an owners manual, a cleaning kit, and a nifty moisture resistant bag to store the gun in when it was being cleaned (i never shot it, only cleaned it, practiced taking it apart and put it back together, cleaned it some more) i was honestly afraid of it. After catching the hot end of a freshly ejected casing while shooting the Marlin .22 one day, I was afraid for a while. And to get back to the Ruger, when i turned 18, i needed a car, my dad said hed pay $800 of the $1200 needed for this 1979 Trans Am with a 403 c.i. engine, B&M shift kit, and the full 3 inch wheelie it did off the stop line (sorri import guys, that would be the torque of the motor and grip of the REAR tires on the asphault when you get an urge to floor it as soon as the tree hits green) So yes I sold it for 100 as I already had some money saved. I did enjoy the car, but now that im old enough to purchase legally, and shoot at ranges when I want to, i miss my ruger! ;[ one day i will buy another one, but money is hard to come by lately. I half thought to sell my current car and buy a few nice peices, but no car =no job = no money = no range = selling my guns to afford another car, so that thought is still only 50% on my mind... The first gun I bought when i was legally allowed to was my Norinco 213, a couple weeks ago, and im currently trying to obtain a Norinco t-54 (tokarev 9mm), becuase I just like these things now, sure all parts arent readily available, but for the price, and the size of the 213, and the quality at the price it was sold for, I cant complain at all, I can hit my marks with it..I know there are alot of great guns out there, but eventually I want a Sig (one of each model), a couple H&K USP's, a glock, a few Kimber's (Custom, CDP, Pro Carry), and maybe a couple Intratec's, and inbetween those whatever I come across that catches my eye (like a S&W .40 revolver, grey with black grips.. hint hint) .. Ok, once again ive wondered away from the topic, so till next time!: i'd throw my derringer before i'd shoot a jennings! :

My first gun was a single-shot NEF 12-ga. It wasn't the first I fired but it was the first I owned. It led to more and more purchases. I was anti-handgun at one point in time. My college roommate enlightened me and convinced me to pick up a cheap single-shot NEF and go pheasant hunting with him and his cousins. If I could find him, I'd thank him.

Hate to tell you. First gun I myself bought was a 5"barrrel (?)
Colt .31 cap and ball around 1940 when I was 14. From Robert Abels.
In NY city (5th ave?) for $6.00. Took the bus up to NY and back.
My trapping partner bought a .36 colt c&b at the same time also for
$6.00. Carried them home in a paper bag. Both were in continual use
for years by us till we entered the service. Go ahead and drool
over the price but back then $6.00 was a lot of money.

Dad told me guns were bad when I was a kid. I believed him and went around thinking the same thing until I was 20 years old and had a gunnut for a college roommate. I bought my first gun (NEF single-shot 12-gauge) and he took me clay shooting and pheasant hunting. I've been hooked ever since. I got my pistol permit on my 21'st b-day and bought my first pistol that day as well (Beretta 92). Now I have ten guns and am looking at buying more every time check out GB or walk into a gun store.

Thanks for taking me hunting Greg.

In 1968 I helped my Grandfather at the grain elevator that he managed during harvest, I was 10 then, and maybe not much help, I would help unload trucks and "cooper" rail cars. I didn't expect it but a few weeks later I got a check from the company that owned the elevator for $$$50.00$$$ BUCKS!! With that money I purchased a Remington bolt action .22. Had some money left over to buy shells. Lord knows how many zillion rounds I ran through that rifle through the years,,

Gee, the first, was a set of Colt Arizona Centinnels
in .22 with double fleece lined holsters. I could
out drawn Paliden and did every week. Took me a year
to get them out of layaway. 1963. Oh, yes I shot them.
    A lot.

First gun I bought was back in 1975 as a 10 year old. Worked all summer at my Dad's construction company washing trucks to save up the money. When I had the required $99.00, he took me to the local sporting good store and I picked up a sweet Marlin model 24 22 over a 20. Still have it, still squirrel hunt with it. Now just waiting for my son to turn 10 here in a little over a year, and it is his.

first one I bought was a Mossberg 500A 12ga. about 3 years ago. Pretty fun, mostly just excited about having a "cool" looking shotgun though (only had a 10/22). One feeling I can't seem to replicate by buying a cz75, ar15, and ak47 is the one I had (still have) after getting my 2nd gun, an HK USP45... maybe I just have to get a tact. or expert. Oh yeah, felt pretty good getting all my ammo in the mail, just went a little overboard. P.S. I used to save my money, but now I can't seem to get enough guns (I think I might get my 3rd 45), where do I get help.

The first gun I purchased myself with money I earned myself was in November 1973. I had worked my butt off all summer walking beans, putting up hay and working in a warehouse. It was an Ithaca Model 37 12 Ga. and it set me back 144.00 including tax. I shot my first deer, phesant, duck etc with it and it now gets shot on occasion, but usually it is just admired....

First gun, Mossberg 16 ga. bolt action shotgun. 17 years old and $40.00 was a lot of money back in 1962. Dad gave me a Browning Sweet 16 for my 21st birthday. Marlin 22 single shot rifle. Marlin 336 .35 cal lever action was my first deer rifle. Added a Browning A5 12 ga. Next came a Remington BDL carbine in 30.06, my current deer gun of choice. Then the pistols started. .22 cal derringer from my dad, a RECK from Germany. A Berretta 92FS and a Colt Target 22 and a Stallard JS9. Last gun to arrive in the fold is an old Montgomery Ward single shot .410 for the wife for preditor control around the chicken house. Best thing I ever bought was the gun safe that holds all except the stash weapons.

Like in the NFL, defense is the key.

The first gun or I should say guns that I ever bought, was a matched pair of peace makers, they came with a set of faux leather holsters, with little loops on the belt to hold wooden bullets, YEP they were percussion (CAP), took a roll of caps about 200 shots to the roll, They were highly engraved and had ROY ROGERS name engraved on them.

    Whish I still had them.!!!!!!

Bought my first firearm in 1999.At the behest of my then girl friend,
in fear of the y2k scares.A Mossberg Persuader 12 ga.I like shooting
3" magnum,1.4 oz sluggs out of it. It's like wrestling a bear!!!My next piece is my first handgun, and still remains my favorite ccw.
    A Ruger Redhawk in .44 magnum (I'm 6'4, 280 lbs.,so this hunk of metal
is not that big a deal to carry). Then I made my first mistake.I bought
    an Intra-Tec AB-10.I wanted a hi-cap fun gun.What I got was a hi-cap head-ache.Then I swapped some pro-audio gear for a very sweet SKS.I
still have that one. Then I took my lumps and traded that AB-10,
for a Romanian AK pattern rifle.I enjoy that one to!Then my Kel-Tec
    P-11,and my latest aquisition, a Llama Max-1 government model.As
you can tell,I like guns, but I'm stuck on a pretty tight budget!
