Guns, Guns, Guns
Apr 22, 2002
In May, 2000, the Million Mom March drew a crowd of several hundred thousand to Washington's Mall. The marchers came to express their support for gun control. Coverage bordered on the reverential.
One of the purposes of the MMM was to put gun control on the national agenda. The timing came as no coincidence. That summer the parties held their nominating conventions. The election occurred in the fall.
A funny thing happened between the Million Mom March and Election Day: Guns fell off the political radar screen. Even Al Gore declined to press the issue. His campaign tried to mute liberalism's hostility to legal guns and the owners of firearms.
Nevertheless, the Democratic Party's perceived enthusiasm for gun control probably cost Gore the election. Guns explain why he lost his home state of Tennessee as well as West Virginia and Arkansas. If Gore had won just one of those three, he would not have needed Florida's electoral votes. And although Gore carried Michigan and Pennsylvania, the gun issue transformed states Democrats ought to have taken for granted into competitive venues.
Last year in Virginia, Mark Warner cultivated the pro-gun vote. Although the NRA gave higher marks to Mark Earley, the so-called gun lobby did not fire broadsides at the Democrat. The perception was that Warner was acceptable. Warner won the Ninth District, where hunters outnumber espresso sippers. National Democrats cite Warner's win as a model.
Two years ago the Million Mom March fatally wounded the Democratic Party. If organizers were to schedule a repeat for 2004, serious presidential contenders likely would ask the moms to stay home.

reported in the news that an "invasionary force" came to Washington,
that's why the military was dispatched and a million gun-toting
Americans were blasted to Here-after.
I'm definately up for it, though.I feel I don't the know-how, or the
resources to organize such an event.Perhaps, if we had simultanious
rallies around the country, it might make it easier for us to be heard
and seen.
For example:
Gun owners and other conservative minded people don't normally organize, and march on the U.S. Capitol, state houses etc.
It has certainley happened, but not with the frequency that say, the
anti-gun forces do.(Probably because most of the conservative minded
types are busy working, and providing for their families.Isn't it
ironic, or rather sad, that the rights of the most responsible of our society, are the most compromised?)
Pro gun advocates need to barrow a lesson from the political correct
handbook of "creative" speech.Create terms and phrases to get maximum, or minimal impact, depending on the usage.
For example:
PRO-GUN should be PRO-SECOND AMMENDMENT.This detracts from any negative implications the word GUN has in peoples' minds.(I know this
seems like self-censorship, but despirate times call for despirate
measures!)
ANTI-GUNNER should be substituted with RAPE ENABLER.This puts a very
ugly face on the net result of these peoples' political leanings.Terms
like this and PRO-HOME INVASIONISTS, puts the opposition to the
2nd ammendment, in bed with the very criminals they claim to be "protecting" us from.Particularly RAPE ENABLER, has a connotation
of being anti-woman,the very worst thing you can accuse a liberal of.
These other terms work in place of anti-gunner:
PRO-CRIMINAL
ANTI-PATRIOT
ANTI-CONSTITUTIONIST
PRO-MURDURERS
NEO-COMMUNISTS
NAZIS
If we put our heads together,I'm sure we can come up with many more.
