As much as I respect you and a good many of your opinions I must ask. Does this mean the problem is being dealt with or you just made all the evidence go away so, hopefully, I'd forget about it?

Just received a message by email from support@GunBroker.com, subject is GunBroker Account Verification, Updade a Credit Card on File. It states that: Your account will expire unless you re-enter your personal information and provide Credit Card Information. If the information is not provided then your account will be deleted without the right to register again.
I would assume this is a scam and if so everyone should once again be make aware that such a request is again making the circuit.
Somebody got a virus. I haven't found it on my machines so far, but it could be in the address book of someone who has my address listed.

I had a Klez virus. I got rid of it. Sorry for any discomfort.

No problem. I have made it my business to get some IP sleuthing software so I can follow up sources of prank mail. I traced this back as far as texoma.net in Sherman, Texas, and even got the zip code.
I'm not at all convinced you were the source anyway (these things bounce around on purpose) and in any event the attempt failed (although some e-mail with a couple of .htm attachments was sent to somebody without my knowledge thanks to a "bat" file they included with their little present). If anything funny happens on any of my regular sites, I'll know why.
I checked for Klez and don't have it at this time. Anyone needing virus removal tools for free will find a worthwhile site at www.bitdefender.com. They have lots of small utilities that download in a few seconds and can seek out and destroy worms, trojans and viruses from Klez to Benjamin to Backdoor to you name it. But you should be using Norton Antivirus anyhow, auto-update its files, and run a weekly scan in the middle of the night....

Nunn,
Sorry to butt in. I just left you a message on another post regarding the Klez virus.
I just got one the other day and don't know where it came from. I'm almost sure it said it was the Klez virus.
My Norton ant-virus system took care of it for me. I think this is the first time in three years that I got one.
This one kicked sand in the face of my Norton AV, and went right on in. Guess I should have updated.

I never opened any of the attachments. One of them had a subject of "your password," which according to one of the virus sites I checked is a classic virus subject line. Another one said "an IE 6.0 Patch you might like." Ri-i-i-ight. Anyway, I've also had trouble with a virus called BackDoor SubSeven. I have kept my version of Norton updated, but just make sure you don't have anything listed on your exceptions list (ie, your "do not scan" list). After deleting a couple of items in there, I ran another scan and found that I had 4 more instances of the BackDoor virus in my hidden system file folders called _RESTORE. That means if I need to restore my files from the .cab files in that backup, I assume, I'm replacing instances of BackDoor which hopefully NAV will find too so I can delete -- again. There seems to be no way to delete these compressed files from the restore set.
I do some downloading though, so I'm asking for the trouble I get, I guess.

If you have Norton, go to the Options, click on Email, and make sure you have checked to scan both incoming and outgoing email. When I did that I found that I had either unchecked, or something had unchecked, the box for incoming email. I also found that the virus had sent email without my knowledge, probably to more than one address, the phoney one of which bounced back to me as undeliverable -- it even had sent the guy attachments from my computer. eBayISAPI.htm or something. Scary. I've been watching my eBay account for phoney activity -- nothing yet.

I have read, that if you place a fake e-mail address at the top of your list of friends e-mail addresses that the viruses that automatically go to the addresses in your list will be stopped. It will try to send itself to the first e-mail address at the fake sight and will stop when it cannot be reached and your computer will prompt you informing you that the address is invalid. This will let you know you have a virus and you can then take the necessary steps to get rid of it.
