i have made it known in my unit that I am seeking employment outside of the Corps and was wondering if anyone knows of any jobs in Alaska. I think it would be cool to live and work in Alaska. Hope I don't screw this up.

There is a poster here that is from Alaska and he is an LEO. I am pretty sure he is in Anchorage. If I can find his email I will send it to you. I know he was saying about a year ago that there was going to be a number of jobs opening up in that area (I think about a year ago). I do recall there was a web site, can't remember it though, for Anchorage.

    Consider it done.

I have found the web address. It is www.muni.org, if you are interested in the police aspect as I was (wife was not ok with the idea), select police under the destination bar.

Will, quote:I think it would be cool to live and work in Alaska
I bet it will be COLD

BTW, I saw on the Discovery channel that the crab fishing boats are always looking for crew. Of course, the life expectancy is about the same as it was for a machine gunner on Guadalcanal!

Crab boats? No way! I get sea sick faster than a duck on a june bug. I wonder about the oil field work though. LEO might just be my calling but I want to check out everything, except crab fishing. Boats are just to damn small for me.

I think they are in the process of building a new natural gas pipeline up there. I would think that there are almost always jobs available, just depends on what you want to do. The cost of living is fairly high from what I have heard. I guess however, that depends on what you consider high. I hear you can make excellent money on fishing/crab boats, but the risk of injury would sure suck.

I think living in Alaska would be great. However, I just watched a special on the crabbing boats on the Discovery channel last night. NO THANK YOU!

Aglore is in Alaska Will270, an e-mail to him might be of help.
There is also a member named Alaska Bush Man, who might be worth a look.

    http://www.state.ak.us/local/jobs.html

Hope this helps. Good luck, you will really enjoy it up here. Try to find something off the beaten path. Anchorage and Fairbanks are just like any other big metropolitan area of the lower 48 states. Heck, 300,000 people in Anchorage.

I believe the City of Bethel is looking to hire a Police Officer.

This link will take you to a list of Department of Army jobs http://www.cpol.army.mil. Scroll down and click on the state of Alaska to view the jobs that are currently available. Jobs will have descriptions under the announcement no. Just navigate throught the view vacancy announcement option once you open a specific job. Federal positions usually pay relocation expenses and locality pay with good benefits and your military time will roll over into your leave accrual, etc. Good luck. I believe they are showing about 79 jobs right now, but some are world wide.

I just got home from Alaska....its extremely depressing. Beautiful but depressing. Poverty and lots of problems with drugs and drinking. It was a small fishing town and my experience could be limited to this specific area, but through talking to locals i highly doubt this is the case. You also have to be prepared for the weather and extremely long days in the summer. Aswell the secenary i noticed after a week become less and less astonishing. I would highly recomed gather some moneyt and take a trip to some diferent areas just to make sure this is the next turn in your life. Make it cheep but meaninful....i doubt it will be without beneift. just my thoughts but the best of luck to you. -quickSLVR982....i would be more than happy to give you any aditional information you desire

unless you have a death wish or are very luckey i would recomend the leo job before the oilfield work it takes too long to learn how to be safe in that job.....most don't make it....besides that kind of work is too hard on the body.
    ex-oilfield worker....14 years exp...
besides you never see retirement benifits with oilfield companys

Let's see, NYC, Wash. DC Detroit, MI, Seattle WA all have problems with drinking, drugs and poverty, yet between those 4 cities live 8 million a Americans. Don't go to any of those places Will270win, the scenery might get pretty ugly after a week there. A person spends a couple weeks working in some dinghy fish processing plant on Bristol Bay and all of a sudden they are an expert on Alaska, gimme a break.

Scenery gets old everywhere. I like Alaska because it is different. I have visited Kodiak Island and Ankorage, I loved it. We got there in may and it was like 35 degrees at 9 am. I like the cold I just hope Alaska ain't more than i bargained for. I think I can handle it, we'll see what happens.

If I wasn't married with kids Id already be there or Montanna or someplace else. Id sell everything I have and buy the necessary provisions and disappear into a national forest and never pay taxes ever again...lol...

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....
