Bad Day at Liberal College

My wife is in her late 30's and already has a degree in business. She loves school and doesn't get to take many classes so she was really looking forward to taking this three week summer class at our local state college.

I don't like the college because it is so liberal. It's also on the list of places where a concealed weapon permit holder can't carry(sort of irrelevant). When I saw that she was taking a class on Urban Developement I warned her she would have some problems.

Shes from liberal Detroit area originally but with twenty years in VA with me she has changed her views to conservative ways.

Neither of us are prejudice in any way whatsoever. We both see all people as good people until they show us otherwise regardless of color. There are bad people in this world so everyone should be careful.

This Professor of this class is a black lady. She starts the class right away by saying that all white people who live in the suburbs or middle class city areas are prejudice. She says there is a conspiracy against the black people to keep them in the low income projects. Then she jumps all over a black lady student for her and her family for moving to the predominantly white middle class suberb area to better her childrens education.

Then she asks the white female students if they were alone walking on the street and three black men approached would they feel intimidated. My wife says she would feel intimidated whether they were black or white or latino or chinese. The Professor says she doesn't believe my wife is telling the truth. Then the Professor asks my wife if three black men walked onto her property while she was there alone would she call the police? My wife said no, it's not the police's responsibility to protect her and if the three men were there with bad intent she would have a gun ready to protect herself regardless of the color of the men. The Professor asks what right do you think you have to have a gun? My wife says it's a God given right protected by our Constitution and if it was taken away we would all be slaves. The Professor disagreed and said she didn't have that right. My wife said what right do you have to pull the race card on her just because she is white? Then my wife said you liberals have come up with government funded program after program for fifty years and it hasn't fixed anything yet. And also she said if she wanted to take a class on racism she would have signed up for that class. Most all of the students black and white disagreed with the Professor.

The classes aren't cheap and she decided to drop the class instead of paying money for that!

Good for Mrs. smokinggun!!! This is the kind of B.S. that our kids have to put up with, in public schools, all the time. Don't get me wrong, there are some good teachers, but finding them is getting harder and harder.

If I knew then, what I know now.

To people like that instructor, college classes are basically *; here they are "making a difference" because so many young people trust them completely. Thankfully some people (like the one you're married to) have strong enough minds to stand up to emotionally charged rhetoric. Count yourself lucky!

Yet another idiot teaching because they can't find a job in the private sector! And NO, not all teachers are idiots......but when you pay crap, you get crap, for the most part. :(

Amazes me how many people "hate teachers because they are stupid" yet would never work for the amount that teachers are expected to make.

When are we going to start paying teachers a decent salary? Until we do, all we are going to get (mostly) is the bottom of the barrell idiots. :(

Here in AZ, teachers START at $25k (or less) usually. :(

IMO the teaching profession is becoming more & more liberal every day(particularly college profs.)
this amounts to 4 yrs. of brainwashing so we should all try to instill conserative values in our kids any time we can.
witness the tube that kalifornia is sliding down.
they are allready beyond help & in my opinion a lot of other states are rapidly following suit.
    (your diety) help us all!

It really saddens me to hear all the stories of bad teachers on this board. It's a real shame that it has come to this. The problem is that people are so ignorant that they think more government is better and political correctness has gotten so ridiculous that you can't do anything without offending someone else. I think a lot of teachers get into the profession, not to help our youth, but to help brainwash and pass on their own agenda and have a small army of people who think and believe just as he/she does. I think its more of a power trip to satisfy their own ego and maybe try and repair a traumatic childhood.

Every day home schooling starts to look like a much better option.

Home schooling brings its own set of issues and problems. With 20-20 hindsight, I sometimes think it would have been a good choice for one of my kids, but it is not a panacea and there are some potential downsides.

ditto ICONOCLAST, the social factor weighs heavily on the home schooling issue. Not as much of the interaction with multiple personalities which helps us to determine who we are in relation to others in society.

SMOKINGGUN, Man....that's the stuff I live for. I was always ready to use up the whole class time, on any given day, debating the gun issue and race card issues when I was in college. Your wife, and a strong one at that, may have a great time in that class just stirring things up. If she protects herself by recording the classes, which is common practice and probably won't raise any suspicions, she could effectively knock down any argument from the proffessor as to why she recieved a poor or failing grade. therefore, she can get the credits and pretty much be assured that she will do well, all while defending our rights and arguing the race card issues in front of a forum who is already on HER SIDE. Might be enjoyable,.....just a thought.

P.S. Tell your little lady,....ATTA GIRL!!!!

Smokinggun- Its a good thing your wife dropped that class.
Though debates and arguments with wackos is always fun, your wife would have probably got a failing grade.

The Prof believes that the B.S. she spouts will be accepted without question. And when challenged that her opinions are not backed by facts, like when your brave wife spoke up, the prof. would have retaliated with a less than passing grade.
Liberals are never concerned with facts that get in the way of their beliefs.

Though I do not agree with this statement, I always liked

I can understand her dropping the class. Have her do one more thing, write a letter to the Academic Dean explaining her reasons for dropping the class. At the same time, send copies of the letter to the President of the college, the student government association, the alumni department, Human Resources (Faculty Tenure Deptartment, just in case the instructor is NOT tenured) and the local newspaper. If she just walks away, the administration will not know about the situation. I'll grant you that they may not even care, but one of these places will. I work at a small, private liberal arts college, suffocating at times, but the one thing that will get everyone's attention is student complaints.

Like in the NFL, defense is the key.

I would have dropped the class as well, after I let the scanky witch heard a few descriptive words of what I thought of her and her racist remarks.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....
