OMG, FN-57 for civilian sale????

The seller sounds shady if you need an LEO letterhead to order the ammo. He's offering 20 rounds with the gun but does not specify "LEO Only" anywhere in the auction. Either he's being deceptive and is trying to get you to purchase a gun that you will never be able to shoot (at least legally) or he is selling you a gun with the intent of giving you black market ammo along with it. It would be tempting to place a bid but I don't see how it could be legal.

I wonder how far performance would drop off compared to the barrel length of the P-90.

I want to say that first article that I read on the P-90 and the cartrige itself lent me to believe that only military and law enforcement could purchase the ammo.

I thought the gun came with 100 "practice" rounds from the factory. I know the original hi-caps are restricted to LEOs, as is the ss190 and subsonic ammo. I don't even know if it's legal to make up the ammo from .223 brass and components.

Just out of curiosity, Why is this gun not avaialable for civilian use? I mean it's perfectly legal to own handguns in other rifle calibers, what makes this one so "Evil?"

My guess is that the ammo is specifically designed for armor piercing and deep penetration applications (i.e., for LEO and military, not sport).

FN restricted the sales of the 57 and the ammo, not the US goverment.
Ammo is out there, but expect to pay $3.50 - $5.00 per round for practice ammo. Currently FN and Federal are suppliers of the ammo, both of which restrict the sales of ammo to LEO & class 3 dealers for demo. My C3 dlr has had one for around 2 yrs, got to shoot 5 rds out of the pistol. Had light recoil, pretty accurate, but the grips and balance is off & butt heavy. The 57 with AP is suppose to defeat 40+
plus layers of Kelvar at 50 yds. Current FN retail is $785 to LEO's.
How many you want at $1000 each.
