This is what I hate about trucking, this makes me want to quit right now. There are two states in this country that I never care to go to, both of them make me sick. These places are so bad to me that I actually look forward to going to New York City with with a 10 stop LTL load. If either of these two states needed to depend on me to bring them groceries they would go hungry, thats just how I feel. This one state has a city in it that I have to go to tomorrow that has me thinking about shooting myself in the foot so I don't have to go. I screamed at the weekend dispatcher and called his mother nasty names when he confirmed where I have to go. I don't want to go!!
It's bad enough that I have to go to Florida but I have to go to MIAMI!!!!!
NO!!!
Can anybody guess what the other state is that I hate to go to?

Nothin' for nothin' but I kinda sorta thought it was against Fed law to carry a firearm in a commercial vehicle? Yes? No? Mebbe so?

GHD, going to gun shops while I'm out in the truck can be bad, the wife isnt with me to restrain me! Can I get a truck over there, is there a good place to turn around?
Matt and ATF, after doing some checking and alot of phone calls I have found that the weapons ban in trucks is sorta an old wives tale. If you have a permit to carry in your state you can have a handgun in the truck, BUT you need to abide by all state laws of the states you will be traveling in. Most of that got started by the companies by not allowing guns in their trucks and guys take it as a fed law. Long guns are very very iffy but if you have a permit to carry a handgun for self defense, the states that honor the permit will allow the gun. You know, if anybody should be allowed to carry all the time it should be those who travel cross country for work or vacations. Like right now, going to Miami is not on the top of my favorite places to go, I have been in several places where I sat in the truck wishing to god I had a rocket launcher because of the freaks that walk the streets at night and see trucks as an easy target. it's like this, legal or not, it's my life. I would rather take my chances in court if need be than meet the coroner. There will only at the minimum three people that know I have a gun in my truck, the *(s) that NEED to see it and the responding officer to the call if it is needed to whom I will hand the gun over to, and of course myself. I have a family that I would like to come back to and there is still many many deer that needs killin yet so I cannot risk getting killed in an alley over a load of toilet paper!
I'm up thru there quite a bit, I like to alternate routes each trip, one trip I run 40, 65, 71 to 70 to get up here to Yankee land and the other trips I run 40 to 81, so one of these trips I will be able to stop. Which is closer for you, Roanoke or Wytheville?

I will be in Melbourne, Fla Monday night around 9,or 10 at the latest.Should be there for a couple of hours at the Home Depot. Toll on the 'gator alley (which i have never traveled) isn't as much as the turnpike. Maybe 10-20 dollars at the most. Turnpike is a little less than 25 from wildwood, if you get off at Fort Pierce. To run it all the way down is about 40 dollars. I never run the toll roads, too easy to get around them, plus I95 doesn't have tolls at this end. If your coming thru jax, hollar at me, I ll ride down as far as Melbourne and protect you.
What part of Miami are you going into? Most of it is hype, but there are a few places I don't care to go. David
Have Gun, will travel
Like I said, I sorta, kinda thought that no guns was the law, but thanks for the info.
I guess then the other part of the question is, If you are in a truck stop, and your log shows you to be out of service for rest time, does that qualify your sleeper berth as your domocile? And since that is where you sleep while on the road, and it's your "residence" are you exempt from certian possession of firearms/ammo laws in places like Illinois, where you must have a FOID card? Annnnnnnd, since you posses a valid permit from another state, does that make for a stronger case? (Does your permit "stand-in" for the FOID card?)

Endless, the biggest contracts we have is with Compaq, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft and William Sonoma.
Rugster, sure would be great to hook up with you, thanks for the tip on the speed traps! BTW, they got some bbaaaddd Camaros down there eh?
Sandman, I didnt see your post untill I got to Ft Pierce, I went thru J-Ville around 6 monday evening, gotta love that traffic! I went to Hilea(sp?), wasnt as bad as I thought it would be, I guess the Bushmaster hanging out the window and me wearing mirrored sunglasses at night kept them at bay.
Matt, due to federal law our bunks are not exempt from search laws even when off duty. Illinois law, I'm not sure about. when I do carry a gun in the truck it is well hid in the bunk and depending on the state I'm in I forget it is back there.
Best!!!
