I got robbed at gunpoint

This is the first time I've ever been on a forum of any kind. Forgive me if I'm doing this wrong. BUT, I was robbed at gunpoint this week. I saw my life pass before me. And I have a (strange?) desire to know what kind of gun this idiot had. I've been looking at all kinds of guns on gunbroker.com trying to find the gun (or something close to the gun) this guy had. But I can't find it. I know very, very little about guns, but I know it was a semi-automatic. It was longer than any of the guns I see pictured when I look through the lists of semi-automatics. Can anyone help?

Sounds like a good time to buy a gun of your own AND get training........don't be a victim.

Good luck, sorry to hear about your experiences.

NO! You may not have my guns! Now go crawl back into your hole!

The stress you were under at the time of the robbery could have affected your memory (I'm not implying anything "negative"--just normal human reaction). Even if you were presented with the exact gun used, it might seem different than what you remember.

Even though I can identify most handguns by sight, I'm not sure I'd want to try to identify one after the fact of it being used against me.

That said, if you want to give as much of a description as you can, and point out some guns that it "looks kinda like" we might be able to help you.

I will say: Most crooks use cheap junky guns--try searching on gunbroker for names like, "lorcin" or "jennings" first.

Basic questions: Was is "chrome" or black? Was the barrel end of the gun "round" or "square-like"? Did the crook, "click" or work any levers on it? Can you give any sizes in inches or centimeters? How big was the hole at the end of the barrel? Did you see any writing or numbers on it? Did it look like it was made of "plastic" or metal or some combination of both? Was any part lighter in color on it than the whole "overall" color? If so, what part? etc. etc.

Wow, what a lot of good questions. The gun was black/dark grey. It was square-ish in shape for the 3-4 inches or so that was the barrel. It was square all the way to the end, but the hole at the end of the gun was round and large. I think the gun was about 8" long, though the police say I may remember it as being longer than it was. It was definitely metal, and the over all color was dark greyish/black. Thanks for your help. I'll look at lorcins and jennings.

Oh, one more hint. The police showed me his gun, and it really looked a lot like his gun, only it was longer and somewhat larger.

A long time ago I used too work at one of those burger joints we all love so much.... I got robbed at gun point also.... The guy was using a black S&W .38 special....(old, Junkie) And his accomplice was using a mossberg Defender series shotgun W/pistol grips....They were stupid and made out with about 200.00 dollars of the stores money, wich I gladley Gave them... Not worth my life. I wasnt even old enought too buy a gun at the time, Nor would I have used it over a fastfood robbery!......

lets all be responsible! shoot a criminal! Remember 0% of firearms pull there own trigger!

I never believed that people could remember so much from a crime--until I went through this. I remembered every feature of this guy's face and I remember the gun as he pulled it out of his pants--inch by inch. And I remember looking into the end of it just hoping light wouldn't come flashing out. Fortunately I had cash in my front pocket. He said, "Give me your money" and within 5 seconds I had my cash in my hand and said, "Here's $200 bucks, man." He took it and ran. I'm happiest, of course, that he didn't shoot me. But I'm also glad he didn't take my wallet.

It might be a Glock 21, 34 or 35, Heckler and Koch USP .40 .45, Heckler and koch Tactical, Beretta 96fs, or a SIG 226, or just a cheap pistol.

So far the Jennings full size 9mm is the closest. I still remember it as longer, but except for this, this looks very close. Thanks, oh competent one. No, I know very little about the criminal element. Someone said something about buying some "gun" that zaps people--knocks 'em for a loop but doesn't kill 'em and take a lot of your time for a trial, junk like that. Any thoughts?

Duane, the 'zap' gun mentioned to you is a 'Taser' or something of that ilk. It 'shoots' out two darts attached to wires and then delivers an incapacitating jolt of electrical current. It's one shot, very limited range and can be defeated by many types of ordinary clothing. My personal opinion: as a self-defense weapon it may be better than an empty hand, but you'd better be sure it works, because the other guy is going to be really pissed. If the other fellow is armed and sees you making a move for a weapon, he is not going to know it is not lethal. Etc. If it were so great, the police would use them, eh? It is a real product, but not too many people in the real world take them seriously. There are many things one can carry for self defense. It depends on your jurisdiction what may be available for you or if you are even allowed to defend yourself.

I think it may be the Jennings full size 9mm as well. It seems to be the only gun criminals can afford.

Could it have been a Hi Point 45acp? They are big and they are ugly!
    Just a thought.

That gun that doesn't hurt the guy intent on killing you is a squirt gun filled with muradic acid. Get one. While you're at it get a trained attack parrot.Where did this happen and was it reported to the police? Follow the paper trail. Am I getting hard core or is it just the occupation. Saxon, what do you think? Maybe when I get back from my hunting trip I can tell you guys how Bigfoot and I barbequed together.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, but you are alive to tell it.I recommend a class in self Defense, then a firearms training class and buy a gun to defend yourself. You did the right thing, dont resist unless you have to.

    Best!!
