I am considering purchase of a Hi-Point 9mm and was hoping to get some comments from people who already own either the 9mm or any of the other pistols Hi-Point manufactures.

I know they are cheap as far as cost but does anyone own one and if you do what would be your opinion of the gun? ( I am looking at the .380 and th 9 mm )
I know I could go with a much better brand and I have those already, I am interested in the Hi-Point at this time.
Thanks,
Jon

If I were going to own a Hi-Point, the carbine would be the only one I'd consider. It is a quantum leap in terms of aesthetic design from what Hi-Point has done before. It's still rough, but the darn thing is short, with a pistol grip, and a nice shape to it. Very ergonomic. I was shocked to find out who manufactured it. It is rough on close inspection, and it probably could use a metal composition upgrade, but the idea behind that new gun is actually one of the best I've seen in a long time. It carries the handgun-calibered tactical carbine concept forward a notch or two. Hunters and plinkers may prefer a Marlin, but for us defense types it's a good, short design. Frankly, with a few changes, they could compete with the Kel-Tec carbine concept. A gun that small doesn't need to fold so much as it needs to accept a variety of handgun mags.
