SCA 12 The Ammunition Tax Bill which will impose a 5 cents tax on
ammunition will be heard by the Senate Health and Human

Many people have asked us if this bill includes taxing components and
the answer is YES (see below quotations from the bill)
NOTE: Rumor on the street is that Sen. Perata may propose a change to
a 5% flat tax on ammo and components. This bill, in any form, needs to be stopped!!
***SCA 12 (Perata) If passed by 2/3 vote in both houses, this bill
would place on the November ballot an initiative to tax every round of
ammunition or on bullet components sold separately at a rate of $.05
each, or $2.50 for the average box of 50 rounds. Health and Human
Services Committee hearing June 5th. OPPOSE!!!
"(1) For the privilege of selling munitions at retail there is
hereby imposed a tax upon all retailers at the rate of 5 cents
($0.05) for each munition sold at retail in this state on or after
January 1, 2003."
"For purposes of this section, "munition" means a projectile
with its fuse, propelling charge, or primer fired from a weapon, or
any of the individual components thereof. "
