I spoke with a Officer on the Department I will be with when completing the Academy. He said that they are issued the Glock 23 .40 but that I can carry my own personal weapon.I have to file a request, take a additional firearms course, have a supervisor or instuctor sign off on my proficiency with the Firearm, and qualify with it for carry.I cannot have anything smaller than a 9mm but no larger than .45super,NO single action,No full auto-matics.He talked with me about what type of gun I was wanting to carry and he suggested a Para Ordnance LDA D14,he says it is what Im looking for but its Double Action and I can get High Capacity magazines for it.He said it will cost more than my price range but it would be worth saving the extra money. What are the opinions of the Para Ordnance LDA D14?

If you carry something differant than what everyone else carries, ammo and mags. become an issue. Both in a fire fight, and practice ammo. You could be buying your own practice ammo.
Some times people that want to carry something differant than issued equipment are thought to be problem people.
My advise is to use the issued weapon, get through probation, then change to something differant, if you still want to.
