What is a safest way to purchase a gun on line. Im thinking of buying a gun but the guy only has 1 feedback. Its pretty good deal but still expensive and I dont want to get burned. I asked him about COD but he doesn't know how it works to get him his money and neither do I. I need some help here guys cause Id really like to add this to my collection and it is a good deal. Any help will be much appreciated... Thanks...

You may want to try one of the online escrow services. They charge you to do the transaction but this way, the money doesn't actually go to the seller until you accept the item. You may want to ask the seller if he'll split the escrow transaction cost with you. He should have no objection to an escrow service if he's straight up.

Im not sure how the C.O.D works either but yu can always go postal money order if he rips you off you get reimbursed and the government sticks him for mail fraud.Thats how I did the only gun Ive bought on auction so far.The guy I bought from had no feedback and I flexed my nuts and tried him out and everything went perfeclty I thought he stuck me on the S&H but from what Ive been told by saxonpig it would have come out about right but the gun was just how e described and it gt here alot quicker than anticipated.

I used a Postal Money Order this week, and you get a receipt with a tracking number on it. The post office claims that their money orders are superior to all others because of their guarantees when you send them in their mail, particularly with proof of delivery, but you would have to call and ask them for the details of their safety features and guarantees.

Obviously, if you send money interstate in the U.S. mail and are the victim of fraud, it becomes a federal offense. I shouldn't think this guy would risk the FBI over a few hundred bucks, particularly now that you are in touch with him by email and he seems like a regular guy.

Once he has your payment, and you've included money for insurance, he should package the item for FedEx or UPS and insure it for the full sale price of the item. Then he will send you the tracking number when the item ships. This gives you a large measure of safety if it should be lost in shipping, which in all likelihood it won't. The tracking number helps the shipper to prove that the item was insured too, and if it is lost, they must pay off.

Of course, I think PayPal now has some safety features, if you can convince the guy to sign up and let you send him the money that way. It's free for you but costs him a tiny fraction, but as a new member he should get a $5 gift deposit to make it up.

As for escrow, eBay has it but I don't know that GB does. PayPal might possibly have it, or something just as good.

Postal Money orders take 90 days or more to be processed and to get your money back.

Go to your local bank, have them send a draft to his bank, which can only be cashed when it is released, by you.

That gives you time to inspect the article, to see if it was as advertised. if not send it back and cancell the draft. Simple

COD, whoever you send it by (UPS doesnt do COD any more) will collect the money, when the Item is delivered, and then The deliverer will pay the person that sent the Item, usually takes about Two weeks

Sounds like too much of a hassle to me. Im just gonna stick with the local shop and go get me a nice shiney brand new glock 22 tomorrow. He said hed sell it for 499+ tax. My friend that works for the DNR said the prices have gone up some but he could get me one for 450 + shipping + tax so it would save me about 25 bucks but id have to wait a couiple of weeks and I dont have any patience so Im gonna go support my local gun shop. Thanks for the help though guys. Im probably missin out by not getting it, but maybe one of you guys will capitalise on it. Its a gunbroker auction, HK USP compact like new for $525 but its a 357 sig caliber and Im not sure if HK has the ability to change out barrels to switch back and forth from 357 sig to 40 s+w. Anyway thanks again for your help...

    Classic --
I don't know of any sellers who would put up with letting a buyer send the money to a "bank near them" and send the item off "on approval." My experience with sellers is, until the cash is in their hand, the item isn't going anywhere. It's too easy for a buyer to snatch the money back, I would think.

    Guys,
PLEASE spread the word: POSTAL MONEY ORDERS DO NOT PROTECT YOU FROM FRAUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone says this........IT IS NOT TRUE! You get ripped off, the post office goes "Tough" unless it is over $2,000, and then MAYBE they'll do something.

COD or use your credit card. Good luck.

NO! You may not have my guns! Now go crawl back into your hole!

OK,the guy e-mailed me back again and says he will send it to my ffl and once he recieves it i can pay after. Just when I thought I had it all figured out now back to the decision process. HK USP 357SIG or Glock 22? HK is gonna cost me about 20 bucks more used in like new condition than the new glock and Im not real familiar with the calber 357 sig either AAARRRRGGHHH. Brain in overload, glock with high cap mag compatibility with readily available parts due to widespread use or the sweet little momma HK for its looks and feel and such a sweet deal? AAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. What do you think gents?
