I was just wondering how some of you would rate the two stores against eachother. I have been to Bass Pro Shops a lot of times and love it. I have never been to a Cabelas but was wondering your opinions when stacking them against eachother. Thanks much.

I like both stores but they are both over-priced on most items.
I only buy things on sale there or buy products like Garmin GPS's where the manufacturer puts a lid on the selling price.

Have been to 6 Cabela's and three Bass Pro shops....I like Cabela's better, larger selection, bigger stores, more extensive wildlife exhibits. Bass Pro in Springfield is the largest one I've visited, but it's been a couple of years....heard they have expanded recently. Bass Pro's boating selection is bigger than Cabela's.

Of the Cabela's, the one in Dundee Michigan is about the nicest....the new one opening this fall in Kansas City might be it's equal. Rumors are that the next Cabela's will be in Pennsylvania. Since they have the largest number of deer hunters of any state, sounds like a smart move.

Either one is a treat....I never drive by one without stopping.

Bass Pro has taken all their mounted animals and put them in a museum that now costs you to visit. I buy Cabela's becuase I live in Missouri and mail order means no sales tax.
Bass Pro's store just outside of St. Louis leaves a lot to be desired. I think they forgot what got them where they are.

Like in the NFL, defense is the key.

The Cabela's in Michigan is awesome! But, so is the Bass Pro Shops. I guess I like em both!

But, like beantole said, they're both over-priced. I shop online mostly anyway.

I like to take my family to either one of the stores and just walk around. Kind of like a field trip for dads.

For some reason I like Bass Pro Shops in Springfield, MO better than I like Cabela's in Owatonna, MN. I hit Cabela's whenever I drive up to visit my family in Minneapolis but I look forward to visiting Bass Pro in Springfield a few times this summer.

Prices are always a little inflated but the selection just can't be beat. The only disappointment I've had with Cabela's happened two weeks ago. I was looking for a soft-case for my Ruger Super Single Six and they only had one Brand/Model of soft cases for handguns. Scheel's is opening a Super Scheel's here in Sioux City next spring and am looking forward to that. Sometimes a small increase in price is worth it when it comes to selection.

The Cabelas in Dundee Mi. I would have to say is #1, but the Bass pro shop in Springfield has a confusing floor plan, which makes it easier to loose the wife. So counting the bonus points for that I have to give the springfield store a close second. They are both great!!!

I have one complaint with the retail Bass Pro shop in Mich. Frequently the sale items are not in stock and many times they never had the item in stock even the first day of the sale. I now call first before making the ride.

Cabelas has a tradition of hiring employees that are friendly and after their training program, very knowledgeable on their products.
Stopped by Bass Pro in Springfield on my way through, back in April and found the primers and targets I wanted, but was overwhelmed by the heavy lean towards fishing-(maybe that's why they call it Bass Pro, Duh!)
But I like the "mix" at Cabelas: a little more fishing stuff in spring and summer and a whole lot of Hunting stuff all year round and more in fall and winter.
Plus, back when the Kearney, Nebraska Cabela's opened back in the 80's I sold them a number of mounts (deer, bobcat, Javelina & rattlesnakes) that I had bagged on Texas hunts.
Now with the opening of many more stores, I get to "hunt" them again.
It's fun to visit a new store and by chance see one of my "trophies".
As they move them to different stores to keep their taxidermy displays more interesting.
Regarding pricing, I always thought Cabelas to be a little on the "high" side-but, they are sure more in line than Scheels.

I live about an hour from Bass Pro so I go whenever I want, but before I go into the main store I go in the outlet next door, thats where the good buys are. Most of this stuff has been ordered by somebody and it turns out to be the wrong size. I was there a couple weeks ago and they had $160 insulated bibs for $39, just not my size. As far as ordering products I have always gotten better service from Cabelas, aside from not having to pay tax, I ordered a climbing stand one time and asked the operator about returning it if I didn't like it, he told me to use it for a while and if I didn't like it I could return it no problem.
