How we as Patients can do our part

We need to change the way we think about microbes. We have demanded
and overused anti-biotics. Don't pressure your Dr. to give you an
anti-biotic when you have viruses. If you do have an infection,
stay away from others as much as possible, and wash your hands
frequently, and cover your mouth. If your prescribed an anti-biotic,
take on time, as prescribed until its completely gone, not when
you feel better. Ask your nurse if she's washed her hands, or
ask her too if your in doubt.
Start to insist as a consumer, that farm animals not be treated
with anti-biotic food. Of 50 million pounds of antibiotics produced
each year in the U.S. half are used in animal feed to enhance growth.
Multi-drug resistant microorganisms are then developed in animals, passed to humans through eating their meat.
Eat well, and stay healthy, should be a goal, so we aren't
immune depressed and suseptible to more infection.

I completely agree with you, including the part about farm animals. But to get the beef you want, you likely have to raise it yourself.
To make a change in the industry, I hate to say, will take federal laws with teeth in them because profit margins are too close not to raise beef the way we currently do. The problem in the beef industry is greed by ranchers and meat packers coupled with a relentless demand (greed) by the public for low prices.
My humble opinion,
Rafter-S
and paying exhorbitant prices for beef raised hormone free.
My source for the information about anti-biotics, is Nursing2003
November issue. Mouse
