Not because it makes anyone safer or because it prevents any crime. The intention is clearly to make life difficult for law abiding gun owners.

and a part of me thinks they will bankrupt the state even more by buying x-ray machines/ metal detectors so they can open the packages at will without consent.
I wish this was not true but nobody knows how to predict the nutballs in kommiefornia. Move to the DMZ its safer.
You Calif guys, get a COE "Certificate of Eligibility" from the state and get an 03 Collectors FFL from the feds. With these two documents you are exempt and will still be able to order ammo to your front door.
As mentioned this law will create a smuggling system, but most folks will just go to a gun store for their ammo.
M88..... That's what many, many people did over the last few months.
The new law does NOT cover components.
Actionplug...... They don't have the resources to stop and search vehs coming from out of state. They never did it when "high cap" mags were banned and I am sure lots of folks bought them out of state and brought them back. Illegal, yes, but it was and is still done.
I have posted this before, but I will do it again.

But they can stop every vehicle coming into the state to make sure you are not bringing in any fruit.

I don't drive to/from Cali much, but I do not recall them stopping every vehicle. It was more like a truck weigh station and you only stopped if you had produce. Have they changed it?
Say you are in las vegas going back to LA; there is the town/ village of baker, ca far before you reach the vegetable inspection station. (why they dont have the fruit inspection directly after the border is beyond me)
You can just claim you never came from las vegas and just went to baker, ca. [;)]
That check point was used when the Medfly was invading Cal agriculture and they were stopping agricultural products from the Midwest and east. They are looking for license plates from certain states, and if they asked questions back then it was "Do you have any fruits or vegetables"
