Should have heard the jet noises as I grew up. Lancaster right next to Edwards Air Force base. Some night when they were test ing rocket engines the ground would shack.

Lets put it this way, when I went to Boot Camp MCRD San Diego folks were complaining because of how close we were to the Airport. Me it just put me to sleep.

I lived in three different place around the Chicago area early on in my business life.

First was 1/2 block away from the 'L' tracks (elevated trains that ran all night).

Second was under a flight path for O'Hare airport.

Third was about a mile away from Midway airport.

It took a little getting used to but in a short while they all put me to sleep...[;)]

    Best.

Considering the C-17 is one of the quietest in the USAF inventory make you wonder, but then consider these are DEMOCRATs we are dealing with.

I live part time in my vacation place in Marathon FL keys and we get a lot of jet fighter action doing all kinds of funky training maneuvers turning and climbing some times in formation and other times braking off in different directions, one of my favorite to watch fly over is a huge cargo one I could swear that air ship has around 50 wheels under it.
They fly out of Key West Naval air base, it's like watching an air show two or three times a week from my balcony.
We have to fight so we can run away.

Grew up near Amarillo AFB (before LBJ got nasty and moved B-52's to snow country)

There were days the BUFFS would make their turn to final right over my head.

    Yep, noisy[:D]

Was staying at the VA Beach Sheraton. Room on top floor, bed facing the balcony looking out at the ocean.

Awakened by morning sun, sat up, yawned, s t r e t c h e d, and looked at the Navy Tomcat 100 meters away with his gear down that seemed to be headed for a final approach to my balcony!

Yeah, Oceana NAS was over THAT way, but I guarantee THAT sight will wake you up faster than Starbucks!

I still remember propeller-driven aircraft spinning up to taxi. Many runways ago, we finally moved back to the States. Walker AFB, Kirtland AFB, Wright-Pat, Mare Island, and then there were JETS!
I enjoy lying in bed, listening to the Jolly Greens warming up 14 miles away, getting ready to take another group of PJs to training.
The weeks after 11Sep01 freaked me out; NO AIRCRAFT!!!

On the road leading to NAS Whidbey Island there was a sign that said
"Please pardon our noise. It's the sound of freedom."

I was talking to an Air Force big wig years ago at the Truck Stop that I was working at when some F-4s flew over stopping the conversation. When they were gone I said, "Man, I wish they would put mufflers on those things"! The big wig said, "Son, that's the sound of Freedom"! I looked back at him and said, "So is my Gun, but I don't shoot it next to my ear"!

Those Phantoms were Ear Splitting loud!

Those sniveling babies in Marin need to just shut up and deal with it.

I had a C-17 fly by one day going down the canyon by my house. By the time it got closer to the beach, it was below my house. I thought it was pretty cool.
