..Happy, happy, merry, merry, George. You've got me by almost three months. Hard as I try, I just can't catch up....[:D]
..I remember my first day of school also. My Mom asked an older neighbor boy to make sure that I got on the right bus to get home.

Dale, is it just me or do you remember the first days of school having a distinct smell? You go outside, it is a bit chilly, slightly damp, kinda woodsy smell. I have asked this question of others, some agree...... others just think I'm nuts. [:)]

..The only smell I recall was that green granular stuff that the janitor put down to soak up vomit from some sick (or homesick) kids. Other than that, there was the smell of fall leaf fires, back when one could actually burn leaves in town. Now, the village picks them up at the curb...[xx([V]
..There used to be a halloween bonfire at the junior high. Free hotdogs, and soft drinks, with a free stick for roasting the dogs. The safety police put an end to that many years ago. Some kid might get burned, you know. Bunch of nannies....[:(]

The thing I remember about the first week of school back in the 50's and 60's, was the overwhelming smell of brand new denim. The whole school just reeked of denim from all the boys and their brand new pants.

Even today when I get a new pair of denim jeans, it always brings back that same memory.[8D]

Happy Birthday George. I got ya by 8 years, and I cannot recall my first year in school let alone the first day. You have a good memory.
