Just a list of a few things. If you stop and think about each before going on to the next, I'm sure something will be awakened somewhere and it will make you smile. I know I did.

Your first love.
Laughing so hard that your face hurts.
A hot shower when you really needed one.
No lines at the store.
A drive on a quiet road.
Listening to the rain in bed.
Towels fresh out of the dryer.
Milkshakes.
Finding something you really want at a price that doesn't make you flinch.
The beach.
A call from someone you haven't talked to in a while.
Finding money in a coat you haven't worn since last year.
Sleeping in late.
Your first dog.
Your first kiss.
Porch swings.
Road trips with good friends.
Songs you know the lyrics to.
The smell of a fresh Christmas tree.
Your childrens' laughter.
Running into an old friend and realizing that good or bad, some things never change.
Holding hands with some one you really care about.
Roller coasters.
The look on someones' face when you surprise them with an unexpected gift.
Knowing you don't have to get up early to go to work the next morning.
Dinner and conversation with long time friends.
Breakfast in bed.
Backyard summer BBQ.
And....chocolate chip cookies just out of the oven.

Some of you might have found enjoyment with a few of these, if so...I'm glad you did.

    Sunsets in the mountains.
    Sunrises at the ocean.
Smell of fresh-caught trout over an open fire.
    Daisies.
Holding your firstborn child for the first time.
    Otters playing tag.

And on & on . . . we have a lot to be thankful for in this life if we only would stop to think about it.

Some of the things that make me smile are combinations of your things.

My first kiss from my first dog. ("Not on the lips, Silver, please not on the lips! Yuck!!!")

Listening to the rain in bed, when you couldn't finish the roof before dark.

Hearing the laughter of my children down in the kitchen when I'm trying to sleep late, realizing they're making milkshakes and wondering if they remembered to put the top on the blender.

Finding money in a coat you haven't worn since last year, realizing you were supposed to buy someone an unexpected gift. Good thing they weren't expecting it, they never got it.

The smell of a fresh Christmas tree as you're cooking on your backyard BBQ, and you see that the kids put some fresh pine branches in there for laughs while you were taking a bathroom break. Hope everybody likes pine-flavored steak.

Your first kiss, the funny look on her face, then wishing you had taken a hot shower first because you really needed one.

Every time my big old Laborador cocks her head when I talk to her I can't help smiling. "Dogs are one of Gods great gifts."

Waking up in a hospital bed with sheets and air conditioning after being medevac-ed out of S.E.Asia, I admit I was sceptical at first, I thought it was just another fever dream.

Watching my son smile and turn his head looking around the room at his grandma, and two aunties, and daddy a minute after birth.

My roses bursting in spring blooms, inhaling their sweet scents...

Iris's that smell of lemons, and rootbeer, and oranges, and heaven...

A fat guy with his butt crack showing...

The look of thanks, when you've surprized someone with a generous helping hand.

Seeing the sunlight shadows on the wall through lace curtains...

Chickens eating bugs in the lawn...

    ducks on morning parade...

My son proposing to a girl who wants six children...

Seeing my patient, a double amputee, walking down the hall towards me...

    bottle feeding a baby lamb...

feeding the seagulls loafs of bread...

laying on top the car at 3 am to watch the meteor showers...

being the answer to someone's prayer...

Walking in the front door after a hard days work and getting that big welcome home hug from your kids.

Watching a nice 3 pound Smallie jump as she takes line out.

A shore lunch of fresh Walleye, fried taters and corn cooked in the can.

Sitting in a tree stand and watching the sun come up over the hill.

Fishing and waiting for so long, hours and hours, circling the boat around time and again to get unsnagged, and then suddenly the rod bends over and you know a fat walleye is on the other end.

Over the past couple weeks my best friend, who I normally only get to see two or three times a year, has been staying at my place while he gets his family moved up here. I come home from work and we spend hours talking about old times, his new job, etc. Honestly, this is the best present I have ever gotten. I NEVER thought I would again see the fellow so much and for so long. I know once his wife and three kids get up here and he moves into his new place it will all be over, so I'm treasuring every minute.

Watching my parents' little ankle-biter (daschundt) drag his pillow all the way across the house and into my parents' bedroom when they ask him where he's going to sleep tonight.

Watching a new-born calf or fawn try to stand up for the first time.

My oldest son's first soccer goal.

Seeing the first buck of the season from my tree stand.
