I just got off the phone with my brother. For those of you who didn't see or read my "prayer request" post, my sister in law was hit by a drunk driver last saturday night while crossing the street. Driver got charged with 3 misdemeanors. Driving while intoxicated, driving in the wrong direction on a one way street, leaving the scene of an accident. He probably won't see any more jail than he's already seen. They are blaming her for not being inside the crosswalk. Something is seriously wrong with the system.
Oh, by the way. She woke up yesterday, addressed each person in the room by name. Then scolded them all for being in her bedroom! She is a fiesty one.

How big a boy are ya?

God is still in the driver's seat. You should inform her of your request and let her know how God intervened to save her life. I prayed for her again just before leaving for work. When Heaven is petitioned with the prayers of saints, God moves.

I am glad to hear that it looks as if Deanna will be all right. If it were my sister, they would have to keep that drunk in jail for 'protective' custody, no way he would be walking around.

Some of you may remember the story I posted about my son getting hit by a drunk driver in 1998, it is just about the same as this. It was the drivers 3rd DUI and he only spent 30 days in jail for the DUI offense. The police in this town wanted to charge him with aggravatd assault by motor vehicle, the DA wouldnt allow it. The drunk claimed my boy ran in front of him and he couldnt see him, the man was driving down the alley and my son was hit at the edge of an empty parking lot, if my son ran in front of him, why did he swerve into the lot and make contact??

I shouldnt post this part of the story but I will anyhow, first off I'm not trying to be racist but it has changed how I look at certain situations now. The DA who is a friend of the family, known my dad since high school and I have been to his house many times for dinner when I was younger. Well, Mr Stewart looked me i nthe eye and said that since it was a black man who hit a white boy, he would not file the other charges. He claims that since we live in a poor county and alot of blacks are on welfare(this is the truth) and make up a large percentage of violent crimes in this county that any charges other than the obvious DUI would look like a racist witch hunt and he did not want the race trouble. FYI , Mr Stewart has a nickname, Plead 'Em Away Bob. He plea bargains everything he gets in front of him, infact if you are caught selling drugs in this county you are 9 times more likely to get probation, he drops charges that carries stiff mandatory sentances and makes charges lessor so nobody goes to SCI. I wonder how this would have worked out in a different area?

Its the same all over for DUI"s.. when I was hit, my carotid was severed and my 7 year old niece was killed.. he got a year in jail..and was driving as soon as he got out..

Glad Deanna is doing so well..we will continue to pray for her and the family..

At one time, DWI was a capital offense in South Africa and Bulgaria. Interesting thought . . . .

I had a Bulgarian roommate in college. He told me that you get executed after the 2nd DUI offense. There is another eastern bloc country that takes you out of town about 15 miles or so and makes you walk back home.

Glad to hear she is doing better. The power of prayer (sometimes) works wonders.

If I knew then, what I know now.

    Woodsrunner,

Tell her she's a real answer to prayer. Glad to hear she's doing better. I'll start praying that the drunk gets what he deserves.

It pisses me off to no end that a situation like blackroses mentioned goes unpunished, my stepmom was killed by a drunk and he got sh*t. On the other side of the coin, my brother got 2 yrs. in prison for his 3rd D.U.I. offense. He then got caught a 4th time and was slapped with 7 years. In my opinion he got lucky to go to jail so that he did not ruin some innocent persons life. Some get busted some don't, that's the way it is and it SUCKS!!!!!

    hey all!
